Junaid Safdar and Ayesha Saif Khan wind up their wedding festivities with a valima in Lahore
We've seen flashy clothes and flashier event setups and after almost a week of celebrations, we have finally arrived at the finale of Junaid Safdar and Ayesha Saif Khan's wedding — the valima! The event is being held at Jati Umrah, the Sharif family's home right outside Lahore.
Junaid, the son of PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz and Captain (retd) Safdar, wed Ayesha, the daughter of Saifur Rehman Khan in a swanky event in London in August. The couple celebrated their wedding with a series of events this winter in Pakistan.
The valima comes after a wedding reception in Islamabad on December 14, a qawwali on Dec 13, mehndi on Dec 12 and mayun on Dec 11.
The clothes
When it comes to this wedding, most of the chatter online has been about the clothes and not just of the bride and groom.
Junaid wore a brown sherwani by Faraz Manan that looked quite unlike anything Manan has made before. His designs usually tend to be more elaborate than this. Junaid's sherwani was understated — perhaps even bordering on drab — with plain brown cloth and gold buttons. However, it is more colour than he's worn at any other event during this week.
The bride, Ayesha Saif Khan, chose a green outfit from Karachi-based design house Menahel and Mehreen. She has worn clothes by design powerhouse Bunto Kazmi for all her other events. Her makeup was by Anam Farooq Khan.
Maryam chose a dark blue angarkha that seems like it might be from Karachi-based designer Nida Azwer.
One rather sweet moment captured on camera was of Junaid urging Ayesha to go eat food presumably before returning to her bride duties.
The guests
As expected, several PML-N leaders have been spotted at the Jati Umrah reception, including PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif.
Party spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb and MPA Azma Bukhari were also seen at the event but that was expected. A number of PML-N leaders attended the event in Islamabad as well.
More chandeliers
If there is one takeaway from this wedding, it's that the Sharif family loves chandeliers. The decor at the event was — predictably — dominated by chandeliers.
The valima was a rather uneventful end to Junaid and Ayesha's wedding festivities. We were definitely hoping for another round of songs from the Sharif family but it seems they had had enough of wedding songs.
