American actor Kate Walsh is making her return to the long running medical drama Grey's Anatomy for its 18th season. Walsh plays Dr Addison Montgomery in the show and made her debut in season one.

The show's production company Shondaland — headed by Shonda Rhimes — shared a video of Walsh and made the announcement on social media. "It’s official! Kate Walsh aka Dr Addison Forbes Montgomery is coming home and my heart is so so so happy," the tweet read.

Walsh shared her excitement at returning to show in the video. "That's right folks, Dr Addison Montgomery is coming back to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital," she said. "It feels so good to be home again. I'll be joining Shonda, Ellen and the rest of the incredible cast on season 18 of Grey's Anatomy".

According to Variety, representatives from the show's broadcasting company confirmed Walsh’s return, but did not give specifics about her storyline. Walsh had earlier exited Grey's Anatomy after three seasons and had starred in the show's spin-off Private Practice which ran for six seasons.
