'You're our hero': Celebrities praise Arshad Nadeem for his Olympic performance

He may not have won a medal, but he won everyone's hearts.
07 Aug, 2021

Athlete Arshad Nadeem may have finished fifth in the Olympic javelin rankings but he's number one in Pakistan's heart. People from across the country have been vocal in their support of the Mian Channu born athlete, both before and after his bout and celebrities were no different.

Nadeem is the first Pakistani athlete to ever qualify for an Olympic final.

Social media was on tenterhooks during his round and RJ and actor Anoushey Ashraf believes Pakistan is ready to watch, support and back their athletes in every sport beyond just cricket.

Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy has been vocal in her support throughout Nadeem's journey and posted another message for him on Instagram. She also highlighted the need to invest in our athletes.

Actor Sanam Jung posted a message of support for Nadeem before his match and said he had already made the nation proud.

Singer Asim Azhar's message was simple.

But he also had some choice words for the government.

RJ Saba Bano Malik said what we're all thinking — Arshad Nadeem is a star! She emphasised that he has made us proud and believes he will make us proud again.

Actor Syed Jibran praised both Nadeem and weightlifter Talha Talib in his Instagram Story.

Actor Zahid Ahmed said Nadeem had won our hearts and he's right.

Actor Sami Khan said Nadeem is a hero and that Pakistan loves him.

Host and singer Fakhre Alam took to Twitter to remind Nadeem that he is a winner, no matter what. "You defied all the odds stacked against you. Absence of facilities, coaching, organisation...you were driven with the passion to make your country proud," he said.

The reactions keep pouring in but one thing is for sure — he may have lost the medal, but Arshad Nadeem has won Pakistan's heart. But his stint at the Olympics as well as those of other athletes have reminded us that the government doesn't support our athletes the way it should.

Celebrities are now calling on the government to support athletes so that they can make our country proud.

Pakistan use to have even gold medals, but now we got new trend "Jeeto ya haro, humain tum say pyar hay", so are they fool to put effort in game if they are getting praising for losing.

Let’s be honest. Great athletes like Arshad Nadeem are not your heroes. Your heroes are hafeez saeed and osama bin laden.

Now we know we need to invest in naturally gifted Talha and Arshad. They reached these top places without any guidence at national level. Now it is the call of nation.

@Chrís Dăn . They reached these top places without any guidence at national level. Now it is the call of nation." I don't agree .They did not achieve these standards by training in some village field by themselves, street corner or without proper guidance and support from authorities.

Similar to Asian games, I was praying for a Neeraj and Nadeem to make it 1 and 2. Bad luck Nadeem! Hope both India and Pakistan look beyond cricket and invest in other sports as well. Love from India!

Everyone in Pakistan is left on their own. A few elites capture all the benefits while the masses, like Arshad Nadeem and Talha, receive no support or help. If the state is not able to hold its part of the social contract, then why pay taxes to such a state?

Look at the list of medals and you will see not one but several much smaller countries with gold and silver medals. We are busy in blame game while other countries are building their resources. It is inexplicable why the most powerful institution in the country is not producing winners it used to send to such competitions.

A nation of over 200million with no medal, there are countries that we have never heard of have received medals, for example, Dominican Republic, population about 8million received 5 medals. We should encourage our athlete especially those who did well becoming 5th. But nation should not be celebrating. Organization of sports is key.

Like always. Pakistan sports board, Pakistan Cricket Board, Pakistan Hockey Association need to show doors to old tested men. Hockey was ruined by hockey players themselves no one it to be blamed. Cricket Same story. Waqar Younus a legendary player himself never transferred the art of those torpedo yorkers to new bowlers. The bowlers under him forget to bowl yorkers. With this much talent Pakistan would have been ruling the world. Please show the Gen Sahab door for he is retired and has no ability to transform the PSB into a place that produces the world's best athletes.

Whatever tweets you write at this time the game is over. The poor guy o my tried himself to get a medal, well tried but missed that. While India's Niraj Chopra was training in Germany with worlds best coach and the Indian govt. have 100 percent money, Nadim was troiling himself only. It's a total .negligence of the Pakistani Govt. By the next olympic Nadim will be older by Three more years and new sets of guys will come forward to take the Gold. In Olympic once you miss, may be you miss forever.

He deserves praise and applause but there must be someone and quite a few who need to be shamed, who are sitting at key sporting positions for years and our country of 220M+ people has not been able to win a single medal for decades. So shameful but our authorities just hide behind by only praising these self-made sportsmen, for whom they have done nothing. Accountability is very much needed here as well.
