Zara Noor Abbas raises an important point about the way pregnant women are treated in the corporate world

She took to Instagram to discuss the difference in the way male and female employees are treated when they start families.

Actor Zara Noor Abbas recently raised an interesting question on Instagram about why working women are asked to step back when they announce that they are pregnant while men who are starting families aren't asked to do the same.

She posted her query on her Instagram Stories and got several interesting responses from her followers.

One follower said it was just misogyny, plain and simple.

Another had some strange misconceptions about working women. Abbas asked the follower if they knew that Gal Gadot was pregnant while filming Wonder Woman.

When one follower put it down to they way society thinks, Abbas asked who made up our society. "You and I are also 'society' but we don't think like this. Then who is this?" she asked.

For one Instagram user, it all boiled down to society's standards.

One person believed it was so women can get a break but Abbas had the perfect reply. "Did she ask for it?"

Someone brought up paternity leave for fathers. The Senate has already passed a bill allowing paternity leave for employees and Abbas is right that fathers should definitely be availing it.

Abbas didn’t agree with one follower’s assertion that women were always belittled. “But they are repeatedly questioned for their choices in life. Why is that question not standard for men in corporate worlds?” She asked.

She also claimed men and women are not equal. “They have their own place and women have their own. Plus, women give birth to another human being. Men can’t do that.”

The actor questioned the availability of daycare facilities at office.

She also schooled one follower who considered working risky for pregnant women. Abbas reminded them that pregnancy doesn't hinder their thinking capabilities.

One response Abbas got was spot on. The follower said people believe pregnant women won't be able to manage their professional and personal lives, despite doing it all their lives.

Another was subjective. Abbas reminded this user that we shouldn't paint all men with the same brush.

Many women are discriminated against in the workplace when they announce that they're pregnant and it's great to see celebrities discussing important issues like this. The choice of whether to work or not to work should be the pregnant woman's. If she is willing to work till the end of her pregnancy, shouldn't she be allowed to do so as an adult who is capable of making her own decisions?

Women can not be stronger then men it’s biologically impossible … that’s why you see all these so called women in complex injecting themselves with testosterone which again makes them like a man which defeats their purpose

Just as five fingers are not the same you can't compare pregnancies of others. Two lives are on the line when a woman is pregnant, and it is not to be taken casually. Just as every individual have different set of capabilities so do pregnant women who can work and take care of themselves.

She’s dragging corporate world into her own weak narratives. It is certainly not possible for pregnant heroin to complete a film. Most of the times working women gets leaves, and are ok. Zara Abbas is exceptionally insane, and depressed, the reasons behind may be the situations she is living in. And she mustn’t blame men for her own failures.

This is tricky situation, just giving a scenario where you're the boss and only two women work under you, one gets paid maternity leave for 3 months and other works whole year, at the end of the year whome would you give better appraisal???

Many studies point to the fact that the best care that is given to an infant is through mothers. It’s not about strength, it’s about nature, in nature the female/mother generally nurtures the child. Even when the child is not yet born it is affected by mothers level of happiness her stress level etc. I know many people don’t think motherhood is a job, but actually it is one of the toughest and most important unpaid job. So if one can one should understand what lies ahead is a task of shaping futures!

Why can't women be more like men, that is the question in the minds of these misfit unhappy women who despise the very bodies they were born with.

It is not the pregnancy make a difference. It is attitude A) employer start to consider that is she will not be able to carry out responsibilities as before B) And women( not all) also because some natural changes in our society (not most of the time in west) start to consider that they shall be given some support to pass that time and in actual they deserve it no doubt in it but here employers become selfish

@Uddin women are very strong by birth if you go in statistics most of the time male children are more vulnerable for infection and mortality . However nature gives them tough responsibilities which we may not be able to tolerate .

Stay home and let men run this world, we have clearly done wonders without any women distracting us.

In the West that used to happen till late 1970s, then came the Affirmitive Action, radical quotas for women at workplace, no discrimination or sending home of pregnant women making them jobless; its had to be provided for in the system. Lets learn somethings to make it equal for those women who want to be in the workplace; paternity leaves matter, even if the cost is shared over 6 months between employer and the govt.

@Nadia in all the halla gulla, many forget the role that mothers play in the upbringing of boys behaviour and not just the girls nurture; good observations, thx.
