Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have quit social media after growing disillusioned by the “hate” they have found on sites like Facebook and Twitter, a UK newspaper reported on Sunday.

The couple were rejecting social media in both a personal and professional capacity as part of their new “progressive role” in the United States, the Sunday Times said.

A source close to the couple told the newspaper they had “no plans” to use social media for their new Archewell Foundation and were “very unlikely” to restart utilising platforms personally.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who moved to California last year after abruptly resigning from British royal duties, have previously had prominent presences online.

They amassed more than 10 million Instagram followers to their Sussex Royal account while they were working royals. But the couple have also previously complained about their treatment on social media, as well as in the British press.

Meghan described past trolling of her as “almost unsurvivable” while Harry issued an unprecedented statement in 2016 denouncing “the racial undertones of comment pieces” and “the sexism and racism of social media trolls”.

Supporters flocked to their support after news broke.

Last year, they launched a wide-ranging non-profit organisation, Archewell, after giving up their “Sussex Royal” brand as part of the terms of their departure from frontline monarchy duties.

They have started other creative ventures, including signing a deal with Spotify to produce podcasts that tell “uplifting and entertaining stories”.

Why just social media, the chat section of all newspapers are also full of negative trolls and one against the other even at a personal level. And what is astonishing i s that the administrators allow it as long as it is directed at another nation.

@Teddy actually no. They are a role model couple for mentally progressive young people everywhere in the world who believe in personal merit and wish to live a life on their own terms.

So finally the world is beginning to see the distructive side of FB, Twitter and other SM. Exactly why some of us were never big fans of any of these platforms, which are simple tools to collect your personal data, while you waste a lot of your time glued to the screen, without having any real frieinds in life.

I hope the monarchy is abolished. No one is interested in seeing a Queen or some lazy Prince and Princess during a serious pandemic.

Honestly anyone who thinks western man and woman are any less manipulate and deceitful then their dasi counterparts, would be in for a rude awakening. Having worked as a personal assistant to a mid tear director in Hollywood i had front row seats to backstabbing and sleaze hookups just to get bit parts in movies and sitcoms. I can assure you everything magen did and that includes having a quick baby was to hitch her bandwagon to the British crown brand. Her fans might mistake her public face and tv image for her true self but if my 15 year experience is any benchmark, she is probably a very different person. Only really successful celebrities can afford to be their true self in this age of social media.

Social media told them the truth that they couldn't handle. They are finished. Queen made a good move.

@Jay So what is your opinion of gold digger Kate Middleclass whose only job was to chase Prince William since school days?

@shahana it’s up to the British people who love their monarchy - not you or me!
