Bollywood actor Asif Basra was found dead at his home in Himachal Pradesh, India on Thursday.

“We are investigating the matter. We have sent the body for post-mortem. Prima facie it is a case of suicide,” senior superintendent of police Vimukt Ranjan told reporters, according to The Wire.

"There is no suicide note,” he told the Indian Express.

Basra had starred in a number of popular Indian films including Once Upon a Time in Mumbai, Kai Po Che, Krrish 3 and Ek Villain, with his latest project being season 2 of Disney Hotstar's web series Hostages, which released earlier this year.

Many prominent names from Bollywood expressed their sadness on social media, acknowledging the tragedy as familiar and hitting too close to home.

Fellow actors Kareena Kapoor and Anushka Sharma extended their condolences to his family and friends.

Manoj Bajpayee was left in disbelief, unable to process the news of his demise.

"What? This is too shocking!! Shot with him just before lockdown!!! Oh My God!!!" he posted on Twitter.

Anupam Kher and Randeep Hooda too, were deeply saddened and shocked.

"To know that more than one artist is suffering to a point where they choose death over life. Speechless and numb with shock. RIP Asif Basra. This is becoming a scarily familiar tragedy!" wrote Swara Bhasker.

Priyanka Chopra deemed it a terrible loss of a deeply versatile artist.

@Majid When you dont know too much about India, why cant you keep quiet! Dont you know Bollywood has always been dominated and ruled by Muslims starting with Yousuf Khan to the current top three Khans. Do you think they have been successful without the fulfledged support from Indian people? 99% of Indian people do not discriminate people based on religion, hence high time you all change your mind, more for your own interest.
