A household name in India, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap was recently accused of sexual misconduct by actor Payal Ghosh, who opened up about the director’s unwanted advances towards her during the shoot of Bombay Velvet.

Filing a complain against the Filmfare award winner, she recorded saying he had raped her in 2013 at his home, where he had called her under the pretext of having a discussion regarding casting her in one of his upcoming films.

As a result, the Versova police registered an FIR against Kashyap under Indian Penal Code Sections 376 (I) (rape), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty,), 341 (wrongful restraint), and 342 (wrongful confinement).

Following, he was summoned by the Mumbai Police for around eight hours, where he provided documentary proof of his claim, denying any allegations made against him.

Calling it an "outright lie," Anurag's lawyer filmmaker's lawyer Priyanka Khimani issued a statement on his behalf.

"Mr. Kashyap has provided documentary proof of the fact that throughout August, 2013 he was away in Sri Lanka in connection with the shooting of one of his films. Mr. Kashyap has categorically denied that any such alleged incident ever took place and has also denied all allegations levelled against him," it read.

“These sudden, belated allegations of an alleged incident of August, 2013 have been widely publicised by the Complainant for the purpose of vilifying Mr. Kashyap, irrespective of the outcome of the judicial process."

The statement also revealed how the filmmaker will be taking a legal defamatory action against Ghosh.

"Mr. Kashyap intends to vigorously pursue the legal remedies available to him. Mr. Kashyap vehemently denies any such incident, as has been alleged, and has sought for severe action against Ms. Ghosh for misusing the criminal justice system and for hijacking the Me Too Movement for her ulterior motives. Mr. Kashyap is confident that justice will prevail.”

The accuser should face serious jail time. This metoo movement has been nothing but farce.
