Cricketer Shahid Afridi has recently shared that his namesake foundation will be working to restore the only public library present in Tank District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The announcement followed after a concerned citizen took to Twitter to point out how the space has turned into a garbage dump and requires urgent action for refurbishment.

"It’s heart-wrenching to see the only library in District Tank, KP, closed for over 15 years now. Youth is our future & education is paramount to their development. I will ensure restoration of this library with help of my foundation," the Boom Boom athlete posted.

Here's hoping the space can be reopened and utilised responsibly by the public.

Library? In this age of communication technology? Convert into big public learning facility of access to internet and web browsing. Subscribe to all major book and magazine sites for easy access to those who cannot do it themselves. Post Corona world is very different. New-normals are already in place. Students learning from home. People working from home. Set up an IT infrastructure of providing facilities for those who cannot have it for themselves. This is E-Library!

Who owns the premises? It needs authorization to develop a public property.

Everything is online and digital now. Let the library physical space rest in peace. Create digital libraries, and give e-book readers for the people of KP via your foundation. They will learn and use it more than a physical space, which is perishable.

There are many different kinds of libraries. The most common type of libraries are found in city zones. These libraries are interconnected and also lend books to each others. In libraries one can find books and journals in many languages. They are also equipped with books of all levels in almost all subjects,In modern times they are also equipped with computers and electric educational materials. In other words now we need more expensive equipment and trained technical people. It is time that national government should make plans for libraries development.......
