Singer Sanam Marvi files for khula

Marvi got married to Hamid Ali in 2009.
Updated 10 Feb, 2020

Sanam Marvi has filed for a khula in a Lahore family court.

The folk singer had married Hamid Ali in 2009, having three children with him afterwards.

According to her plea, her husband's demeanor changed once they were married.

"He became abusive, would beat me and curse me," she claimed in her petition. She added, "I was putting up with his abuse for the sake of my children"

"It is no longer possible for me to be with my husband," she said, requesting that the court issue her a decree for khula.

If he was abusing her why did she have three children with him? Ruining their life. She should have dumped the man in the first year of marriage.

Poor woman has suffered enough. Some men just cannot tolerate a wife with a successful career!

One more sad tale of a woman domestically abused by a vile husband. How many thousands of such women are there in Pakistan?

It’s so unfortunate that our society still doesn’t accept a woman a bread earner. I would think people around her husband are partly responsible for change in his behavior. Education is the key to The Solution to most of our self created issues.

I thought she was all praise for her husband a few years ago, alas she had no choice but to cover up for him. Poor soul, how can someone treat their wife in such a disgusting manner. If marriages don’t work out, people should part with dignity and goodwill. My sympathies to the good lady.

Our wives are not our property or slaves, we must learn to treat them as equal partners in the marriage. Best of luck and all the happiness to Marvi after she is free from this abusive relationship.

Very good decision. She is a great Sufi singer, famous across the world. The husband is a parasite doing nothing. Mental peace is very important for every human.

Sanam Marvi is a wonderful singer--and my favorite. I pray for her in this time of difficulty and mental anguish, and I hope that she would overcome it. There is absolutely no justification for wife abuse, both verbal and physical.

Brave woman ....... the domination of male chauvinism and patriarchy in our society needs to be addressed by laws that are implemented and do not rest on the books for appearances only. This lady has obviously taken this step because she is economically independent but how many of our women in such situations are ?
