Ali Khan Tareen speaks out about being a #GirlDad in Pakistan

"I can't think of a more special relationship than father and daughter. Girl dads are the luckiest men in the world."
Updated 01 Feb, 2020

After the tragic passing of NBA legend Kobe Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter Gianna, the basketball player was remembered for his many, many contributions and achievements.

One of them was being a great father to his daughters.

The hashtag #GirlDad took off which spoke of the bond between a father and his daughter; how important it is to be close and also how beautiful the relationship is.

Co-owner of the Multan Sultans, Ali Khan Tareen also spoke about being a Girl Dad on BBC's Insaf Abbas on Outside Source World Service Radio.

Tareen shared, "In Pakistan, especially in the villages, a very common blessing is: 'May God give you seven sons'. But when my wife and I were expecting, I prayed every single day to have a daughter."

"Some older family members would tell me I should pray for a son because I love sports, I can teach my son to play cricket and I can take him to games. I would say, 'Why wouldn't I teach my daughters cricket? Why wouldn't I take them to games?' Society had placed limits on what fathers and daughters should do, and I wasn't going to have any of it."

According to Tareen, "I can't think of a more special relationship than father and daughter. Girl dads are the luckiest men in the world."

Ain't that the truth! We love a genuine loving relationship between a dad and his baby girl! Share your #GirlDad stories with us in the comments!

father of two girls; second one officially joined the family couple of months back; she is too dependent on her mother at the moment and also spends too much time with her but eventually she will be the other princess of her dad. No words can describe the feeling; its out of this world and nothing can match. Also makes me think of our parents feelings towards us which we have not and do not appreciate much; be it father or mother and we are a boy or a girl.

When I was living in a remote African city on a job, an occasional call from my loving daughter back home, I actually felt like having a 'high potency multivitamin'. It was always invigorating call.

"After the tragic passing of Kobe Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter Gianna, the basketball player was remembered for his many, many contributions and achievements." Yes, and another contribution was his out of court settlement after being charged with the rape of a girl in 2003. I guess you guys only reserve your feminist outrage for Pakistani misogynists, and don't mind too much when the perpetrators are famous American athletes, right? Comical hypocrisy.

@Pak-uk excellent, hope you would feel the same when you have second or third child as daughters too. There are people from the subcontinent who keep producing daughter after daughter until they produce a son!

Daughters are so special. Our three daughters have a great association with us and how they express their love is simply matchless. No need of critics of sick minds.

I am lucky having two daughters both smart intelligent and beautiful. I got a son as parents insisted and wife too. All happiness of life gone as he is not sensible and sensitive to us.
