Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's latest offering has already made it big internationally.

Sitara: Let Girls Dream went to the Los Angeles Animation Festival 2019 and bagged three awards while there. The silent film won Best Produced Screenplay, Best Music Score and the Humanitarian Award.

Written and directed by Sharmeen, the film revolves around a young girl, Pari, who dreams of being a pilot but is married off at a young age. The story is told through the eyes of her younger sister.

“We at Waadi Animations are delighted to be able to represent Pakistan on a global stage and honored that our film Sitara: Let Girls Dream is being recognized - our artists and animators have worked very hard to create this special film and we are excited to share it with the world.” said Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.

Sitara is also ready to release on Netflix on March 8, 2020.

Sharmeen had previously said about the project, "For me, Sitara is more than a film, it is a movement that we want to start across the world, that encourages parents to invest in their girls’ dreams, encouraging them to free their girls from the burdens of early marriage."

The team behind the film includes Eleyna Haroon as the co-producer for the film while women's right activist Gloria Steinem and Darla Anderson - the Academy Award Winning producer of Coco and Toy Story 3 - are executive producers. Adnan Saeed joins the crew as CG supervisor, while Babrus Khan serves as the character designer and Amin Khimani the FX supervisor.
