Ahad Raza Mir bags Betty Mitchell Awards nomination for Hamlet
Ahad Raza Mir delivered a powerhouse of a performance in play Hamlet: A Ghost Story and now he's being recognised for it.
The Pakistani actor has been nominated by The Betty Mitchell Awards in the Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Drama category.
The 22nd Annual Betty Mitchell Awards, which aims to recognise excellence in Calgary's Professional Theatre Community, released the list of 2018-19 nominees last week.
In an interview with Images the actor said of his character, "Hamlet is particularly an exhausting character. Once the show is over, the cast asks me if I want to hang out and I usually just refuse. I am so drained that all I want to do is sleep."
Speaking of his performance he had said, "My mother came to see me perform and she told me that for the first time, she couldn’t recognise me and actually felt scared of me. I just thought that I must be doing something right if my own mother could think that way!"
Is there any chance that we could see a special performance of Hamlet in Pakistan? Ahad said, "Let’s see. We could try, maybe."
Hamlet has also been nominated in the Outstanding Sound Design or Composition category.
The awards will be held on June 24 2019.
