After stepping out of his comfort zone and taking on a period drama like Kalank, Karan Johar is experimenting yet again.

Dharma Productions will be helming a series of horror flicks under the title, Bhoot (not to be confused with Ram Gopal Varma's 2003 hit and sequel). The franchise will kick off with Bhoot – Part One: The Haunted Ship, which will be directed by Bhanu Pratap Singh and starring Vicky Kaushal and Bhumi Pednekar.

According to Scroll India, Johar actually asked Varma for the rights to use the name: “I made an unreasonable request to Ramu, asking him for his franchise title BHOOT and he graciously and magnanimously agreed to give it to us without even blinking an eyelid,” Johar said in the press release. “All of us at Dharma are blown away by his generosity and are eternally grateful to him. We aspire to make sure the title is in the right hands of horror.”

The movie is slated to be released on 15 November.

I really can't see this working out well. Especially as the story seems lifted from old American and British horror flicks about haunted ships. KJ is best at his nonsensical romantic films. Stick to that.
