Speaker KP Assembly Mushtaq Ghani has rubbed Pakistanis the wrong way after suggesting that in the country's current time of inflation people should cut down the number of rotis they consume.

He said at the Khyber Union of Journalist’s program ‘Meet the Press’, "Instead of two rotis let's cut down to one roti."

In other words, he pulled a Marie Antoinette.

It didn't take long for his speech to make headlines. Even Bilawal Bhutto had a comment to make about it. The PPP leader took to Instagram to share: "Don’t know about Naya but definitely #MengaPakistan."

He means, Mehnga Pakistan...

Twitter was quick to point out how problematic his statement was.

Every one-roti Pakistani is already envious of the two roti Pakistanis, trying to find ways and means how to snatch a a roti from them and make his own two instead of them. It is a race of have and have nots and not the roti in itself. Pakistan with over 26 million tons of wheat production, is already in huge over-production and looking for exports.

Any advice for poor people who can't afford 2 rotis?

How about just eliminating the poor? That should satisfy the likes of this out of touch "leader".

I think he was oversimplifying the message of austerity and curtailing the expenditures..But unfortunately his statement was taken in literal sense.

Well, It seems nothing wrong in this statement - to me. Hazrat Aisha (R.A) once said, Islam main sb say pahli bidat yahi thee k logon ny pait bhar kr khana shuru kr dia. - I know, he didn't said it in that context, but there is perspective too.

I am not going to defend him but I have listened to his whole speech, his use of anecdote was not up to the mark. In other words, he simply was talking about conservation; as we talk about water conservation we say that we should conserve water for our next generations, that was he was talking about we should be thrifty and frugal for the time being but he simply could not put those things into the right words.

Irresponsible comment by a Speaker without conscious. His day to eat one roti will come soon. PMIK, denounce such comments and learn from history of abuse. A shameful Speaker that is not with the common people of PK.

A minister level person speaking like this should not be taken lightly. Probably he could not express himself. He must be taking about wastage of food. It's problem in every society.

Apparently anybody REALLY can enter politics in Pakistan. We have no standards or prerequisites. How about you stop the ever rising inflation ane make sure salaries match prices. Especially for menial and poor average workers.

When the country faces financial difficulties, every one has to sacrifice. Instead of two rotis let everyone eat one and a half. Rich people waste too much food by putting in their plates and throw more than half which they are unable to eat. For some elite persons it is a matter of SHAAN or sign of SUPERIORITY. Such persons should stop this habit.

Very unfair comments. An effort to deprive the people from their basic rights and needs. at the cost of their own perks and privileges in Assemblies. what is his own monthly aggregate earning? will he sacrifice himself for it to 15000/month ?

Excellent idea by Mr. Speaker. Henceforth stop giving him salary & perks. Instead give him 1 roti for each of his family members
