Gully Boy's trailer announcement had given us major 8 Mile vibes and now the trailer gives us something more.

Zoya Akhtar's latest film has Ranveer Singh playing a rapper and also stars Alia Bhatt and Kalki Koechlin in prominent roles.

Based on the life of underground rappers from Mumbai – Divine and Naezy (Naved Shaikh), the trailer shows Ranveer Singh as a man who is cynical of rap until he views a performance and is inspired to pursue it. From what we see, the movie will likely touch upon a man expressing himself through words.

We're more fascinated with Alia Bhatt's character and were amused the moment she clapped back at a lady who asked her if she can cook. Bhatt has a very spunky personality and we're curious to see her arc in the film.

Gully Boy is slated for release February 14.

Bollywood at its best... copying original ideas from rest of the world. This movie is a lame effort of copying “8 Mile” an Eminem movie based on the rappers tough life. Please come up with your own original ideas and make a movie without the blatant nepotism.

To be honest rapping has its own class and is only good in English with an American accent.

@Robin Sharma I can only assume you only saw "8 Mile" trailer (not the entire movie). Zoya Akhtar is a credible name & I will wait to see the movie before making any judgment.

@Robin Sharma Zoya Akhtar has movies like Dil Dhadakne Do, Talaash, ZNMD as part of her filmography. I would not be dismissive of her craft without watching the movie, as you seem to be happy to do. Bollywood is an easy target, but it also encompasses extremely good filmmakers and fantastic cinema. If you know where to look. But hey, throwing mud from the anonymity of the internet is what trolls live for.

@Neo FYI, Rap has its roots in African music.

@Robin Sharma - Do some research before talking. This movie is based on the true story of Mumbai rapper Naees, who along with his partner Devine has been rapping for almost 20 years. It is nothing like '8 mile'.
