Judy Dench thinks Kevin Spacey shouldn't be cut from his films
Judi Dench says she doesn’t condone any inappropriate conduct by Kevin Spacey, but says scrubbing him from a film sets is a questionable precedent.
Speaking to journalists at the San Sebastian film festival, the celebrated British actress said “I can’t approve, in any way, of the fact that – whatever he has done – that you then start to cut him out of the films...”
Spacey was erased from All the Money in the World last year and replaced with Christopher Plummer after allegations of sexual harassment against him.
Dench told the San Sebastian film festival in Spain that Spacey “is and was a most wonderful actor.”
She added: “Are we to go back throughout history and anyone who has misbehaved in any way, or who has broken the law, or who has committed some kind of offence, are they always going to be cut out? Are we going to extrude them from our history?”
“I don’t know about the conditions of it, but nevertheless he is, and was, a most wonderful actor. I can’t imagine what he is doing now.”
Spacey was first accused of sexual assault late last year after which he said he did not remember the encounter but that “if I did behave then as he describes, I owe him the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behaviour.”
