Is Henry Cavill hanging up his cape as Superman?
Looks like Henry Cavill's future as the Man of Steel is in doubt.
With the actor being confirmed to star as Geralt in Netflix's The Witcher series, questions arose about him reprising his role as Superman. The clash of schedules could be problematic... we really don't want another CGI mustache removal debacle. Geralt may even have a beard!
Makers of upcoming DC feature Shazam! were hoping to reel Cavill in for a cameo as the son of Krypton but according to the Hollywood Reporter, sources are claiming that he may be hanging up the cape for good.
Said the source, "Superman is like James Bond, and after a certain run you have to look at new actors," says a studio source. As such, Cavill will join Ben Affleck, who isn't expected to reprise his role for director Matt Reeves' forthcoming Batman stand-alone film, as a hero on the way out."
Warner Bros. has yet to make a comment on Cavill's future as Superman, as they claim to focus on the upcoming Supergirl movie.
"We have a great relationship and great respect for Henry Cavill that continues to remain unchanged. Additionally we have made no current decisions regarding any upcoming Superman films," read a statement from a Warner Bros. spokesperson.
Henry Cavill himself is refraining from confirming or denying the rumours and posting cryptic social media posts instead.
Oh well, at least Cavill's future as Geralt is confirmed. The character may be based on the books but fans have already started perceiving him with the video game character's design and say it might work. We're choosing to remain optimistic and are waiting for Mark Hamill to be confirmed as Vesemir!
