While Henry Cavill is busy riding the wave of success that is Mission Impossible: Fallout (2018), he is also gearing up for his upcoming role.

The actor will headline the upcoming Netflix drama The Witcher, based on Polish novelist Andrzej Sapkowski’s fantasy series of the same name.

Lauren Schmidt Hissrich who serves as executive producer and showrunner on the series tweeted the exciting news:

The eight episode series will revolve around Geralt of Rivia, a witcher who is trained to battle monsters but “struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts”, according to Netflix’s press release.

Sapkowski The Witcher anthology series, which he authored between 1993 and 2013, have been wildly popular and have been translated into over 20 languages. Previous adaptations of the series as well as the video game it spawned have been criticised by the author for failing to do his novels justice. Let's see how this collaboration turns out, with him serving as a creative consultant on the series.

The show will be directed by Alik Sakharov (House of Cards, Game of Thrones), Alex Garcia Lopez (Fear The Walking Dead) and Charlotte Brandstrom (Outlander). The release date and rest of the cast members are yet to be announced.
