Disney is set to feature its first (live action) African princess in its next fairy tale.

Deadline reports that the Mouse house has acquired the pitch for Sade, an original story by Ola Shokunbi and Lindsey Reed Palmer.

The live action film will follow a young African girl who, when her kingdom is threatened, will discover her magical warrior powers and harness them to save her people. She teams up with the kingdom’s prince and embarks on an adventure that allows her to discover her potential and save the kingdom.

Sade is the second black princess to be featured by Disney after The Princess and the Frog (2009) that featured its first animated Black princess. Technically, Sade follows the lead of Black Panther's sister Shuri, so maybe this isn't a first after all.

The cast and crew of Sade is yet to be announced.
