Jemima pays tribute to Imran Khan's political journey

Recalling his 1997 election debut, she says IK's challenge now is to remember why he entered politics in the first place
Updated 26 Jul, 2018

The election results may be on halt but preliminary numbers put PTI firmly in the lead, and most people have more or less called it: Imran Khan will be Pakistan's next Prime Minister.

Jemima Khan, former wife and unwavering supporter of the PTI chief, has paid tribute to his years of political struggle on Twitter.

Congratulating Imran for becoming PM, she says that his challenge now is to remember why he entered politics in the first place:

From IK's rather abortive election debut in 1997 to his reported triumph yesterday, it's clear it can take decades for political ambitions to be realised.

Here's hoping IK heeds her final words: "The challenge now is to remember why he entered politics in the 1st place."

Thank you Jemima - you are an inspirational woman and its a shame your marriage with IK couldn't last. Its great to see you are still supportive though. Wishing you and your family the best.

Imran Khan is the ONLY leader in the history of Pakistan who has genuinely worked his way up to the top. Zardari hijacked PPP after Benazir’s death; Nawaz was launched by gen Zia. None had to actually struggle. Look around in the world, you will not find ONE such man who made it so big in the political arena, except Imran Khan. Legends and stars like Clint Eastwood, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ronald Reagan, Amitabh Bachan, Sunil Dutt, Dharmendra, Govinda, Shatrugan, Sachin Tendulkar, Ranatunga and countless others entered politics because of their fame and fan followings but where are they today? Nowhere! They all decided to join one of the mainstream parties because it wasn't possible for them to succeed on their own, and none of them made any considerable contribution.

Must learn Jul 26, 2018 05:31pm
Yes humiliations, hurdles, and sacrifices are there, the prime reason is the trust people have in this man. Now he must strive, and thrive to deliver, step by step, not to himself, or his family, but the neglected people of Pakistan.

We will see and it would be evident early on whether Imran Khan remembers why he entered politics. But more important and harder thing to do would be stick to the reasons why he did (enter politics). Good Luck, Pakistan.

As a personal felicitation to her ex husband and the father of their two sons the comments are fine. But it should have remained in her personal domain rather than in public. She is not the brightest spark to understand the politics of even the country she resides in let alone the complexities of Pakistani politics and society.

Five years down the line, there will be a new usurper in place as IK would have exceeded his mandate. It would be fun to see Imran Khan in the same place as Nawaz, with the new guy promising a brand new Pakistan

"The challenge now is to remember why he entered politics in the 1st place" Absolutely, but he has gone off tangent with Jinnah's ideals. The minorities will feel more marginalized with his new patriarchal image and favour.
