Quite possibly the most awaited Bolly flick of the season, the trailer for Sanju is out now.

Ranbir Kapoor stars as Sanjay Dutt in this biopic about the latter actor's tumultuous, controversial and fascinating life; the good, the bad and the ugly.

Clearly, this is going to be the role of a lifetime for Kapoor. The movie will trace Dutt's struggle with drug addiction, his scandalous love life and his time in jail, when he was convicted for involvement in the 1993 Mumbai bomb blast case.

The film also stars Dia Mirza, Sonam Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Paresh Rawal, Manisha Koirala, Boman Irani among others; Tabu will be making a cameo appearance in the movie.

It is revealed that Dutt first started experimenting with drugs when he was upset with his father Sunil Dutt (Paresh Rawal) and the next time he indulged in drug abuse was when his mother Nargis (Manisha Koirala) was sick. By the third time, he was in too deep and an addict.

In another scene, Sanju is asked by a journalist (Anushka Sharma) about how many affairs he's had and he provides a "rounded off" figure of 350.

Sanju has been written and directed by Rajkumar Hirani. The film is slated to hit screens on June 29, 2018.

Highly shameful for India that now a biopic is being made on convicted criminal. Is there any dearth of good people in India? Why don't make a biopic on scientists, social workers and sportsperson?

Ranbir plays it well. Sanju now in real life must be transformed and bring back the esteem of late Sunil Dutt and the great Nargis.

This is why we as Indian will never progress. We make films glorifying underworld people, criminals, convicts. Where as British media made a movie on our Mathematics genius. Ramanujan.

While the verdict is not out yet, I am not sure if I'd watch this film given its bare impressive trailer. And Sanjay Dutt used to be a favorite in my childhood. There are serious flaws in the whole presentation. 1- Paresh Rawal playing the role of late Sunil Dutt saheb is a complete disaster. Who even made that decision? Manisha Koirala as late Nargis is more palatable. 2- Dia Mirza as Manyaata? Ahem...OK. But the guy who chosen to play Salman Khan, give me a break! Couldn't they have made him play himself? Also no mention of Sanjay's ex-wives Rhea Paul and Richa Sharma. And it's supposed to be a biopic. Also, just my personal opinion. I don't really like the choice of Ranbir Kapoor for Sanjay Dutt. He over-acts so much and looks inexperienced. Sanju may have had a thousand flaws but he never did look immature in his entire life. One just has to see oldies like Thanedaar (1990) or Naam (1986). Ranbir Kapoor just doesn't have what it takes to carry that image.
