Salman Khan's lawyer speaks up, says his verdict was "a surprise"

Lawyer says that court has acquitted co-accused implying that Salman was out hunting alone in the middle of the night
06 Apr, 2018

Salman Khan was sentenced to five years in prison yesterday in a blackbuck poaching case from 1998.

The actor spent a night at Jodhpur Central Jail, but his defence lawyers are appealing to the sessions court to seek relief for the actor, reports Economic Times.

Legal counsel Anand Desai pointed out how Salman has been acquitted in other cases where the facts were the same as the 1998 poaching case.

"We respect the decision of the Hon'ble Court. While we are studying the judgement, it just came as a surprise, as the entire investigation, and facts of this case were the same as those for which Salman has been acquitted by the Hon'ble High Court of Rajasthan in two cases, and even by the Hon'ble CJM in the Arms Act matter for the alleged offence on the very same night as is the subject matter of the present case," said Anand.

He added, "Also, in the present case the Hon'ble Court has acquitted all the 5 co-accused which would imply that Salman was out hunting alone in the middle of the night in a remote area outside Jodhpur. We have preferred an appeal to the Hon'ble Sessions Court and applied for an urgent hearing today."

According to Desai, the sessions court will hear the appeal for suspension of the sentence tomorrow morning.

Because he stood for Pakistani actors, there is no rule of law in India and courts are run by hindutwa mindset that was proved by exonerating Gujrat Butcher Modi from genocide of muslism of Gujrat.

Seems like this anti muslim government can’t digest the fact that Muslims are dominating their film industry and hence sentenced him for five years over such a pity thing

Why modi is not convicted for killing two thousand Innocent people? He was even banned from entering the USA for 10 years because of his designated terrorist status

Just leave him alone. Senseless verdict after 20 years is pathetic. Salman is a great contribution to Indian economy. True he could not have been hunting in the forest alone in the middle of the night. Judge must have been sleeping.

Acquittal of 5 co- accused, is the strongest point for Salman lawyer to defend his client. He has bright chances of freedom although the fine amount may be raised. As a compensation Salman may buy a pair of Black Bucks from Punjab Govt (Pak) which has extra quantity to sell at Pak Rs 80,000 per pair, and gift to forest dept.

Several people were murdered in suspicion of beef eating. Murderers were caught and released with or without trial. Here we are talking of a species of animals hunted knowingly or unknowingly by Salman Khan. How is this punishment justified? The court should have taken into account it was animal or a deer he hunted down. Also his contribution to income tax and charaties should not have been ignored. Last but not least the actor enjoys immense popularity and provides some moments of fun and joy to the entertainment-starved public. Please revisit his verdict.

Let's not pay too much attention to the verdict and respect what the courts took 20 years to decide. The fact is that this person is a serial offender and deserved what was served to him.

Salman being declared guilty is well justified, Saif, Neelam, Tabu, and Sonali bendre being acquitted/exonerated is a miscarriage of justice. Just being a celebrity does not in any way give anyone a license to flaunt the laws of the land, in whose eyes all citizens should be equal. Moreover to kill endangered specie displays an inflated ego and a lack of civic responsibility. And if I remember correctly. I read at that time that the black buck meat was cooked and eaten by the hunting party. So how can anyone who ate that meat be declared not guilty?

Such an illogical thing that people are relating it to religion . When people don't have anything to say they just relate it to religion . Sanjay dutt also a big star was jailed and he is a hindu and salman khan had been acquitted many times before this as well by the same system. Nobody said that because he is a muslim therefore he was given clearance . So guys be a bit sensible and logical . You have to pay for your deeds and this is exactly what is happening with salman .

Salman managed to subvert the judicial system in his killing human beings. He was caught red handed in both the case of killing humans and black bucks. The question is whether he will manage to get away Scott free this time as well? The offences are not in question. The only question is whether the Indian judicial system will allow him to walk away.
