Shri Rajput Karni Sena says censor board has ignored facts that could upset Rajputs and Muslims

If you thought Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavati troubles were over, think again.

Despite the intervention of India's Central Board of Film Censors, Rajput groups continue to oppose the release of the film. Lokendra Singh Kalvi, chief of Shri Rajput Karni Sena, has called upon the community members to push for a complete ban on Padmavati, reports NDTV.

On December 30, the CBFC had announced its readiness to give the film a U/A certificate if its stipulated changes were made. The censor board had consulted with historians to come up with modifications to Padmavati such that it doesn't offend the well-wishers of Rani Padmini and other historical figures depicted in the film.

Still, Kalvi announced at a press conference in Jaipur, "Members of the Rajput community will gather in Chittorgarh on January 27 to give a clear message that the sacrifice of Rani Padmavati has not gone in vain. Anyone who supports our call of banning the film can join us in Chittorgarh."

He said that the CBFC chief has ignored some of the facts that could upset Rajputs and Muslims.

Kalvi also claimed that Bhansali had earlier maintained that the film was based on history, but later claimed it to be a fiction. "Till now, he has not been able to clarify his point," he added.

On December 30, the CBFC announced that the Ranveer Singh-Deepika Padukone-starrer Padmavati would be given a U/A certificate if it made certain changes to the film. One of the key changes involve the renaming of the film from Padmavati to Padmavat.

Other key modifications suggested including disclaimers, particularly one regarding not glorifying the practice of sati and changes to the song 'Ghoomar' to befit the character portrayed.

Padmavati is based on a poem of the same name by 16th century Sufi poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi and stars Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh in the leads.

It is unclear at this point whether the filmmakers will defer to the censor board's demands and when the film will release.
