Sumbul Iqbal's next project is based on Lahore's red light district
Could a young woman be the bright spark that could turn around a bad neighbourhood?
That's the premise of Sumbul Iqbal's next TV project Kaha Ho Tum, which will air on A-Plus.
In the drama serial, she plays Noor, who was born and bred in Lahore's red light district but shielded from the ills of her neighbourhood by her mother who wished her to live a good life. Unfortunately for Noor, not only does her well-to-do father reject her, but does so her future husband.
Says Sumbul about Kaha Ho Tum, "The drama asks the question: Why won't society let someone rise from a situation, a livelihood, a neighbourhood it deems bad? Why won't we let someone like that pursue a positive life and accept them as good?"
Sumbul reveals that this may be her boldest role yet. "I've never played a character like this before. Kaha Ho Tum is a love story, but it also takes us into old Lahore where the viewers will get deep insight into the prostitution that continues there. The drama has a strong subject and gives a message of positivity that our society direly needs."
Sumbul will also feature in two dance performances in this serial.
Shot in old Lahore, the drama also stars Faisal Rehman, Affan Waheed, Abid Ali, among others.
