Sonam Kapoor wants gossip sites to stop pitting women against each other
Sonam Kapoor wants gossip websites to stop pitting women against each other.
The actor took to social media to call out tabloids who spread fake news about female celebs not getting along for the sake of clickbait.
Recently, rumours had started to spread that Sonam Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor were having issues on the sets of their upcoming film Veeray Di Wedding. Sonam responded to those rumors, tagging gossip site Pinkvilla in her tweet.
While Pinkvilla did not name the stars or the film, it ran a 'blind report' that insinuated the above, which led other publications to run the news of their alleged spat.
Pinkvilla had claimed that the two stars of the film had gotten into a "noisy catfight" on sets, a term which Sonam rightfully took offense to.
"Must you insist on shoving this tired patriarchal concept of women cat-fighting into our film (which is not about a road trip) as if grown, intelligent women have nothing better to do," says Sonam in her Tweet.
Sonam also called out the site for the way it glorifies drama and pitting two women against each other, be it a scandal.
"Please keep in mind how outdated, irresponsible and harmful your narrative is and frustrating for a culture of women who actually want to work together. There is no place for it anymore."
Father Anil Kapoor also showed his support.
Veeray Di Wedding claims to be Bollywood's first major chick flick. Apart from Sonam and Kareena, it also stars Swara Bhaskar and Shikha Talsania and is being produced be Rhea Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor.
With so much woman power going around, it makes sense for Sonam to stand up for it.
According to Sonam, "We will continue to be actual friends and try and make a kick ass movie and prove that women can work with each other, get along and have a blast."
Veeray Di Wedding releases in 2018.
