Pepsi Battle of the Bands' launch song is all sorts of nostalgia

Fawad Khan, Atif Aslam and Meesha Shafi bring the house down with their tribute to Vital Signs and Alamgir
23 Jul, 2017

Are you ready for Pepsi Battle of the Bands? Because we are!

The project just released the launch song (full version of the promo) and the three powerhouses brought their A game together. Fawad Khan, Atif Aslam and Meesha Shafi take the stage with their spin on a mash-up of Vital Signs’ 'Do Pal Ka Jeevan' and Alamgir’s 'Dekha Na Tha'.

The video is a tribute to the band and singer, in fact, Shahi Hasan of Vital Signs is seen rocking his guitar for the song all the way from New York.

The show will see Fawad and Meesha joined by Aaroh's Farooq Ahmed in the jury. Together, the trio will judge the performances of 20-30 new talented bands who will compete for the title award in the show.

Pepsi Battle of the Bands will air on 30th July.

Absolutely did not make any sense. A lot of yelling, some hippy-look, two old songs and then some pepsi. A desperate attempt to look cool.

Both the runner-up (EP) and the winner (Aaroh) from the previous battle of the bands will be part of the jury. Haven't heard a lot of music from both of them and I don't see Fawad as music guru. Guess it's just a marketing stunt rather than discovering new talent? Is it streamed online somewhere?

Desperate attempt. And I really wonder why so many lights flashing all around? Meesha Shafi is just a loud noise, not a real singer, she should try her luck in modeling. I don't think she is made for singing. Aside from Jugni along with Arif Lohar I haven't listened to anything melodious from her, and Fawad Alam (Khan) as a singer? No sense at all. Pepsi can do much better than this, I think they are overdoing to find something comparable to Coke Studio.

What Atif and Meesha has to do with Battle of the Bands? This song sounds more like a Pepsi AD jingle, three different textures of voices, with wavered pitches trying to rejuvenate old golds, we need some new songs, new lyrics, new music not reprise artists!

Sorry but no one should be allowed to ruin the songs sung by legends. With no offence but really Meesha? They must be kidding. Why can't they produce their own songs rather than destroying the older versions.

Stopped the song in the midway; sorry to say but it was absolutely mundane and dull.

I don't get the comments about ruining the legendary songs; this Battle of the bands is a good attempt to connect the young generation with the time of legendary songs to make some new legends out of the upcoming bands. Also, no harm having Fawad and Meena Shafi in this ad; Fawad started out as a singer (anyone else remembers Entity Paradigm? less known but a band not afraid to experiment in my opinion) and Shafi has strong vocals which are good enough for the genre she sings for. Yes this is Pepsi's attempt to catch up to the popularity of Coke studios but in the end, hopefully it means good competition and the audience wins. I am pushing mid age myself but I don't understand the knocks and put-downs to every single thing that is focused towards the younger generation. Surprisingly these put-downs come not only from older generation but some young folks too; I guess age is just a number indeed. Though everyone is entitled to their opinions.

Oh nostalgia. What better voice to compliment Allamgir , than Atif Aslam. And do pal ka ... awesome.... The lads slagging the stars should know that there are a whole lot of people like me who grew up with those older legendary voices and tunes, who still enjoy the modern pop with its diversity and style.

@A shah It's not uncommon for artists to cover songs of the original singers. That contemporary performers use their talents to keep such great music alive, which can resonate with to-day's audiences speaks volumes for the quality of these songs. Of course, any new rendition cannot sound like the original recording - it's not supposed to. The artists' own energy and dynamics are at play. Enjoyed listening to this music, by the way!
