Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is loved and highly respected across the globe and here's proof.

The singer was recently honoured by Oxford University as the institute named a rehearsal hall after the Pakistani artist - making him the first South Asian artist to receive such an honour.

The hall called 'The Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan Music Room' has the singer in raptures and he credits his team for his success.

Rahat told Images, "I feel honoured on this auspicious occasion. It is the efforts of my management team especially Mr Salman Ahmed who has instigated this with Oxford University Music Faculty."

He adds, "It is a moment of pride for the nation and my moment of gratitude to the Almighty. I'm really humbled."

The event included a performance by RFAK which was enjoyed by all attendees.

Well deserved and source of pride for the nation. Congratulations. Now, if we can find just one hospital in Pakistan which can be named after Nawaz Sharif or Zardaris? Heck, even a highly decorated local Bus does not carry their image, name or slogans.

@sachin panwar Indian music industry progreessed due to him, he was a legend before the bollywood and is, even after bollywood. Stop this narrow minded thinking. Just look at bollywood songs without Pakistani singers, which forced them to remix and mashup old songs.

An old urdu saying "Ghar ki murghi daal barabar" ... Pakistan is home to numerous celebrities and Noble personalities, be it scientists, doctors, engineers, artists, musicians.. but they hardly get the respect and honor they truly deserve. Malala youngest noble prize winner in the world is hardly spoken or discussed at any platform in Pakistan, she is rather considered a puppet agent of the west! Similarly, RFAK got fame only when he toured India, and now Oxford gave him this honor which should have been awarded long time back in home country! We ought to learn from other nations who honor our heroes and feel proud of our talented people.

I wish Rahat, had also mentioned the name of Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Sahib, his mentor, who taught him the skill sets needed to bring him to the position that he is in today. It is very sad and disappointing, that we choose to ignore those, whom we owe a lot, especially if they are no longer in this world, and now of no worldly benefit to us.

He is far by the best. No one has voice even closer to him. He is an asset for the Indo Pak subcontinent. Can we Indians and Pakistanis stop fighting. We would have been developing at rocket speed to gather...I am not sure how many would agree but peace is the only solution forward.. we have lost enough lives money and hatred towards each other.

Congratulations to Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. Nobody knew him outside Pakistan n handful ppl in India #before his Bollywood songs. He was not famous but Thanks to Bollywood the world know him and love his songs. I am glad for him. Many yrs ago i met some of his family members on different occasions here in Holland because of my love for Indian classical music. #Bollywood has been a tremendous platform on world stage for other Pakistani singers/musicians n few actors who were part of ...even Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Ghulam Ali. Through local Indian/hindustani radio stations around the world ppl got to know Noor Jehan, Mehdi Hassan, Parvez Mehdi, Tari tabla maestro, Mehnaz, S.B John etc. etc #GoodProgress (I knew them all through their work (met many in person), musician, actors, Moin Akhtar (friend)

I wonder what that non-Pakistani & non-English script has to do with Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. In any case, Urdu would have been better as that is the language of his home country.
