The 'Punjab Nahi Jaungi' teaser is out and emotions are all over the place

There are plenty of nice shots, some crying, some unrequited love (we're guessing), but we have no idea what's going on.
08 Apr, 2017

The teaser for Punjab Nahi Jaungi is out and it's slightly confusing.

The teaser shows a love triangle between Mehwish Hayat, Humayun Saeed and Urwa Hocane, who face a plethora of emotions in the 1-minute video. (oh boy!)

With colourful shots and that very familiar soundtrack, (and ahem shot of Mehwish Hayat in the fields ahem) Punjab Nahi Jaungi looks like a Karan Johar Bolly flick peppered with lots of melodrama.

However, during the course of the teaser, the lovey dovey couple, Mehwish Hayat and Humayun Saeed's love takes a turn for the worse as we see an injured Mehwish and a crying Humayun. We're still wondering what Urwa's role in the film is... is she the other woman?

We have no idea what's happening, but what we do know for sure is that there's trouble in paradise, because guess what? Mehwish Hayat Punjab nahi jaeygi.

We're quite intrigued at this point and this is one film we want to watch. Punjab Nahi Jaungi is slated for release on Eid-ul-Azha.

@Sarah the reason why Pakistan was created was for equal representation for minorities. Read up on Pakistani history as well.

Unfortunately when it comes to film industry we set Bollywood our benchmark and not trying to make our own identity. If you want to succeed then you need to focus on building your own identity and never try to copy others.Be unique and creative staying within our ideology and limits.

Can't we just show reality with real people who dress, emote, look like common man Pakistani? Do we need this copy macho-ness? All these things don't happen in average Punjabi homes. Nor do common household people dress bright or look like that. This looks copy of indian people, culture . Disappointed.

@Sarah Based on his previous work, I think Humayun Saeed seems to be strongly influenced by bollywood in the written material of his films. The costumes and cinematography has always been a part, but quoting dialogues from Indian movies is different from the past. Granted some bollywood lines are popular in Pakistan, but you rarely saw them in a movie. Maybe this is something that the TV people will bring with them, or maybe it will fade away with time.

Looks unreal and superficial. They don't even look common man Pakistani /Punjabi on street. Hard to relate when you bring wooden ramp models and actors with so much blush make up to play the role of average Pakistani. Get realistic looking gritty common man cast with real touching story please. Our industry needs it.

@a My experience was good on contrary. Dangal, Kahaani, bhajrangi Bhaijan, Taare Zameen pe, Paan Singh Tomer, Oscar Lagaan,Hulchal, 3 idiots etc endless list, were the best Bolly movies I saw. Pakistan box office record was broken too. Majority don't agree with your opinion if it's running full house.

@Tr I wish I were rich to waste money on bad products. Overacting statues and models with garish costumes don't represent real life Pakistani or our immense talent. Film industry needs to audition every city grass root level. Get good actors, actresses who can act, not models. One who expresses dialogue like a pro and resemble common man. If people have to connect with movies on screen it shouldn't look foreign culture with foreign looking actor, actresses behaving in non Pakistani way. Or people won't be able to relate with it.

Actor's botoxed cheeks , actresses' copper blonde hair- parlour look with heavy make up and wedding cloths is hardly reflection of common man in day to day life in Pakistan. This is more reflection of elite showbizz culture of our society.

@Ehsan Because there is no creativity. This is lazy copy paste stuff to earn money from public for their enterprise. It's disappointing. One can't make up for bad screenplay and script by replacing it with eye candy male/female models with painted faces ,salon hair gyrating to generic music. Where's reality in it?. We need artists who can act not plastic models with terrible acting.

amazing, amazing, amazing. My word, what a teaser. From the look, it may become Pakistan's biggest hit. May even cross borders and surpass films like 'Mughal Azam'. Excellent representation of Punjab culture, and if you go into any punjabi city or village, you'll find these common peoples working in fields with full shiny clothes and make up. A true representation of such a beautiful culture. Hats off to all involved in making this masterpiece.

@DJ Pakistan film industry had its own style way back in 70’s, 80’s.90’s but no one was interested. The Pakistani nation preferred Dulip Kumar,Amitab Bacchan, Anil Kapoor, Hema Malini and Sri Devi over Nadeem, Sultan Rahi, Shabnam, Faisal Rehman and Babra Sharif . This new film is worth watching and Mahvish Hayyat looks stunning as always. Its not a copy of a Indian film but I can name Indian movies which were a copy of Pakistani films.

@Shahid Believe me when I say the culture they show in Indian movies is not an Indian culture. If you look at the trailer of Mai Punjab Nahi Jao Ghe the girls are wearing shalwar Kameez which is a Pakistani National Dress they are no wearing sari or choli. So don’t get it twisted.

I don’t get it why are people being so critical about this movie. It looks great. They say it’s a copy and past version of a bollywood production. Same way the girls are dressed and dancing in the fields. FYI the dress girls female leads are wearing are Pakistani national dresses. As far as dancing in fields is concern look at the history of Pakistani cinema from Asia to Mumtaz from Anjuman and Babra to Neeli and Reema they all have been dancing in the fields. This show Pakistan didn’t copy Bollywood but Bollywood took the idea from Pakistani films. One of the so called critics questions why models are being hired to play lead roles in the movies. Look at the history of Indian and Pakistani cinema, Models ruled it. In Pakistan Babra Sharif, Rubi Niazi, Samina Peerzada, Meera, Zara Sheikh they all were great models and ruled the film industry.
