Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's documentary A Girl In The River has been nominated at the 76th Peabody Awards, revealed the filmmaker in a Facebook post.

A Girl In The River is the story of a young survivor of an honour killing attempt.

The film has been nominated in the Documentary category alongside a diverse range of works including ESPN's biographical O.J.: Made in America, Netflix's Audrie & Daisy (an examination of the ripple effect of sexual crimes against two teen girls), NYTimes.com's 4.1 Miles (the story of a coast guard captain on a small Greek island who was suddenly charged with saving thousands of refugees from drowning at sea) and BBC News Online's investigative Islamic State’s Most Wanted.

The winning documentaries will be announced on April 18.

The Peabody Awards recognise the best in television, radio, internet broadcasting, producing organisations and individuals. Jurors chose 60 finalists out of 1,200 entries from television, radio and the web. The 30 Peabody Award winners and finalists will be celebrated at a gala event on Saturday, May 20 at Cipriani in New York.

Other Pakistani productions to have been honoured at the Peabody Awards include Burka Avenger, the children's series featuring a burka-clad female superhero, which won in 2014.

She knows how to choose winning stories which would attract the western press and awards. Sometimes I am proud to see her works but other time it all seems very opportunistic,

Her negative fans will find some way to dismiss this fine lady who has bought recognition to Pakistan on social issues in that local people refuse to acknowledge. They feel that negative stories spreads a dark light over the country, if there were no social ill then Miss Chinoy would be out of subject matters!
