TV actor Nayla Jaffri says reports of her critical condition are exaggerated

'My [cancer] treatment is in process and I am getting better,' shares Nayla
Updated 02 Apr, 2017

Veteran TV actor Nayla Jaffri was said to be battling the last stages of ovarian cancer in media reports on Friday.

However, Nayla has come forward to clarify that those reports were a "bit exaggerated". In a message on Facebook shared by her son Jauhar Ali, Nayla informed her well-wishers that her treatment is in process and she is getting better.

She added that her chemotherapy has lowered her immunity, which is why it is inadvisable for her to meet people, but she thanked everyone for her support.

Exaggerated reports of Nayla's critical reports ran rampant on social media on Friday and Saturday. Famous personalities like Adnan Siddiquishared news of the actor's health on their Facebook pages which read: "B+ blood needed for Actress Nyla Jaffery. Admited in Liaquat National Hospital. Her cancer is in the last stage."

However, Liaquat National Hospital denied any truth to these reports, stating she is neither in need for blood nor is her cancer in the last stage.

The actor who was diagnosed with ovarian cancer last year has been receiving treatment at LNH since her diagnosis.

Nayla Jaffri is one of Pakistan's finest actors. She has worked in numerous TV plays and stage productions, earning many a fan by virtue of her acting skills.

Some of her famous works include Aa Mujh Ko Sulana, Desi Girls and Thodi Si Khushiyan.

Images is currently trying to reach Naila Jaffri and her family.

Such sad news. It is an irony that the artists or celebrities, in their heyday, are literally worshiped. However, when they are afflicted with such illnesses that curtail their life expectancy and quality of life, they are abandoned. What is distressing is the attitude and response of the Culture Department and other relevant authorities which get paid to look after such affairs. I hope she receives good hospice care. Prayers going up.

What type of cancer she got? There could be alternative treatments as well. Medical doctors do not have a cure for this as multi billion dollar drug industry wouldn't want a cure, they rather create fear and sell their drugs. During last 50 years, man has reached moon, looking for Mars prospective now but there has been NO development in cancer cure "medically". But FDA has arrested hundreds of herbalists and even doctors curing cancer. Many researchers even got killed mysteriously.

I used to work at JPMC. We were always short of blood. No one would be willing to give blood. I once had a guy in his 40's who came in with profuse bleeding in his stools, he was accompanied by 4 young men in their 20's who were his relatives they refused to give him blood. The guy was pale and dusky and I counselled the 4 men for about an hour but they refused! People dont donate blood forget about kidney or corneas. Many cornea in Pakistan come from Srilanka. Once you receive enough blood your body develops antibodies against minor antigens, I think she would require a small subtype of B+ blood which her body doesnt react to so she is having difficulty. Any how-- Please donate blood, you wont feel tired or fatigued if you do. You can donate blood every 3 months, its free of cost plus you will get free lab report if you donate blood.

"B+ is the most common blood group. How is it not available in the Hospital ?" Not true, B+ is not the most common blood group, but yes it is not a rare type either especially in the Northern and Northwestern parts of the Indian subcontinent.

Sad news indeed. She is one of the very fine actresses Pakistan TV has ever produced. I have worked with her in a theater play "Zohra kee galee" - adoption of Ghulam Abbas famous short story " anandi" - and found her to be a very polite, very gifted and respectful to everyone. Her dialogue delivery, control over highs and lows of the voice makes her a very distinct actress whose performance has always been enviable for her compatriots. She is in my thoughts and prayers. May she recover soon.

It is important to identify the primary malignancy and stage and to treat it aggressively and appropriately. I believe she has ovarian cancer which responds well to chemotherapy . Newer targeted and immunologic approaches in combination with chemotherapy enhance the responses and can be used as subsequent lines of therapy . She should technically respond favorably . This emphasizes the need for appropriate screening. Annual mammography for breast cancer, colonoscopy for colon cancer and gynecological exam for ovarian cancer pick up these malignancies at an early stage and can be curable. Smoking cessation is fundamental in limiting lung cancer as well as low dose CT scans of the chest to identify lung cancer in high risk patients.
