This all-female Indian crew just flew a flight around the world

The flight was part of Women’s Day celebrations and has been submitted for consideration to the Guinness World Records

Air India said it has set a world record by flying around the world with an all-female crew.

Press Trust of India reported on Sunday that the flight flew over the Pacific Ocean from New Delhi to San Francisco last Monday, and then flew back to New Delhi over the Atlantic on Friday.

Apart from the all-female cockpit and cabin crew, the other staff involved in the flight including the check-in and other ground staff and the air traffic controllers were all women.

According to the news report, Air India, the country’s state-owned carrier, has applied to the Guinness World Records to be recognised for the feat. The flight was part of celebrations for International Women’s Day, which falls on Wednesday.

Great feat. Proud of the team. My husband flew the New Delhi - Chicago a few days back. He was pleasantly surprised at the quality of service. New management has put emphasis on service and quality. The onboard staff also seem to have motivated to give their best. I hope this new direction will take maharaja to the great heights it once enjoyed. All the best.

Congratulations ladies. Yes India is truly achieving equality now with women working in all class, cadre without any labour dignity. The average family earnings are three fold now making a huge difference in affordability. Families who had just enough to meet their ends a couple of years ago are now having modern houses and cars.

This is how Indian is shining. This ia an example of woman empowerment in India. In india, man & woman enjoy equal status. We change ourselves with the time. We don't have any compulsion from our religion or society. Our value system gives us positive mindset & thinking process which guide us to do better & better. We're the passengers informed, about the all women crew that were going to fly them. I think in such circumstances the passengers have the right to be informed prior take off, so that they can decide whether to fly or not. I am quite apprehensive, when it comes to flying with female pilots,as I have had a few near miss situations while flying the domestic sector in India.

Government of India achieved a remarkable milestone by flying flight managed by all women staff. Pakistan has woman pilots too and can manage such women managed flights. On the other hand Indian Government failed to provide protection to women in the society, who are treated badly including increasing rape. I think instead scoring points, lets give every women respect in the society, and stand against those who feel women are inferior, so women can get rights to rise.

@Bala Oh it's always better than excess baggage standing passengers in flights . On a serious note -this is a statement to the world from India. In earlier days,women pilots got into news headlines and all other posts used to get unnoticed. But now since it is a routine; no bignews for women pilots and other women staff. So for making a statement for international Women's day ,"all women crew "is a great idea from Incredible India.

@Pomy . Surprised that if you were a passenger in the plane for you would not even know that there was a near miss. Also how do you know the error was not made by a male pilot. In brief please grow up and respect the person for the ability and not be narrow minded like in KSA where they font empower women to drive .

In Pakistan we already have 2 women Pilots who are flying commercial plane and they have already created record couple of months ago, women have a greater role in all fields, keep it up.

Of the thousands of flights every single day in India, a handful of incidents are reported in a year. I would like to know how you have been on a "few" of these - you really must be INCREDIBLY unlucky, just statistically speaking. And you also seem to be sure that they were flown by female pilots. Bull excrement can be smelt a mile away, especially on message boards.

@Pomy As long as the crew members are qualified for the job and have the required experience, the airline need not inform you or any other passenger in advance. As far as you are concerned, there is a lot of growing up to do.If you are chartering an aircraft, you can insist that crew shouldn’t be all women.
