Aamir Khan's 'Dangal' will not be screened in Pakistan, confirm distributors

They said 'any news reports to the contrary are false'.
22 Dec, 2016

Bollywood film Dangal will not be screened in Pakistan, the distributors of the film said in a statement. They denied media reports suggesting that the Aamir Khan-starrer would be released in the neighbouring country, PTI reported on Tuesday. They said “any news reports to the contrary are false”.

This comes a day after Pakistani cinema houses lifted the temporary ban on Indian films imposed in the wake of escalated tensions between the two countries. Cinema owners in Pakistan incurred Rs 150 million in losses after screenings of Indian movies were suspended, an official had told PTI.

On September 30, Pakistani cinemas had said that they would not screen Indian films, a day after the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association banned Pakistani actors and technicians from shooting in the country till “normalcy” returned. Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena had also asked all Pakistani artists to leave India.

Relations between Delhi and Islamabad have soured since the Indian Army conducted “surgical strikes” on “terror camps” along the Line of Control with Pakistan in September. On September 18, militants attacked an Indian Army installation in Kashmir’s Uri sector, killing 18 soldiers.

Its good for pakistan film industry as far as shortage of content is concerned, there are always good hollywood movies available in quantity with urdu dubbing too.

there shouldn't be any ban on screening of Indian movies in pakistan. let's face red truth our cine owners need these to run the show so let's help them. I'm sure with the release of Indian movies out own industry will keep pace and shall be on its own feet in due course of time. the embargo is only for our disadvantage

On an average a decent bollywood movie earns 150 to 200 cr....good movies get business of 400 to 450 cr easily... so whether it is being screened in Pak or otherwise...this movie will do a good business for sure.. There are scores of people who will go to watch only Amir Khan... bad decision for the people in pak who love to see bollywood movies... There is no place for such foolish restrictions

This movie is all about woman empowerment. Keep the petty politics aside, this movie may have a positive influence on a father, mother, brother, uncle etc to influence the girls in their family pursue their dreams. This will be available illegally anyway, so what is the point of not screening and deprive the employees who are making a living working in cineplexes?

I think people need to read the news again. The "Distributors" of the film have said that it won't be screened in Pakistan. It means the rights have not been sold to be screened in Pakistan.

@soumya if you are a business person you would understand a point that the more you reach out to people the more you reap. Even if you earn 20- 30 crore from pakistan which may not be a big amount but this is additional + millions extra fan following. I must tell in Pakistan, bollywood following was enormous which is declining because of the sore relations. This is bad for all of us and same for Pakistani dramas.

Yesterday I saw the movie. It's very very nice. It's a true story underlining woman empowerment. The topic is so important for Indian sub continent. The story happened in northern India which is very similar to Pakistan. I am sad that Pakistan has put ban on this movie which has no connection to India Pakistan rift. Please do not miss this movie .

The movie will not make it to the Pakistani theatres because the movie ends with the Indian national flag being raised and the anthem being played in the background. An indispensable scene from the movie which cannot be edited and won't make it through the Pakistani censor board.
