Pakistanis and Indians bond over chai and samosas in this adorable taste test

Just goes to show, carbs and chai bring everyone together.
28 Nov, 2016

Think you can distinguish between good ol' Sindhi biryani from Pakistan and Hyderabadi biryani from India? Think again!

You have been warned: cravings of samosa, biryani and chai will arise after watching this clip.

In a positive video by Buzzfeed, Pakistanis and Indians came together to taste test dishes from their respective countries to see if they could taste the difference, only to realise they're more or less "same to same."

Topics of discussion include everything from the love of cake rusk to keris (raw mango) to Arshad Khan aka chaiwala!

Just goes to show, carbs and chai bring everyone together.

That means they don't respect the stand taken by their respective countries. This artcicle seems to story of friends like Fawad and Karan, Pakistan and Salman, Pakistan and Amir, Pakistan and Sharukh. etc.

my father belongs to Lakhnou and i really want to visit that place due to many things. Indian culture that attracts me because of its lovely and rich traditions and specially lot of mutual cultural elements we have, lovely and generous nature of Punjabians, I have plan in all of my life to visit my beloved neighborhood whenever tensions may eradicated by both of countries.

Well, the similarities between Indian and Pakistani food end up north. if you come down south or go to the west or the east, things are totally different. No one up north has tasted a decent Keema masala dosa or a regular masala dosa with potato and onion bhaji. No one up north can rustle up a great Vada with sambar. The Hyderabadi onion samosas aren't available once you cross the Vindhyas. Nor are dishes like Chettinad Chicken, Vindaloo, Chicken kolhapuri or Appams and stew or some superb malwan seafood with sol kadi. That's like missing more than 50 percent of India.

As an American of Indian origin I can tell you that we, Indians and Pakistani Americans, mingle quite a bit than people back home think. We also vote as per the requirement or issues in US not back home. In recent elections in California many Pakistanis voted for Kamla Harris a US senate candidate of India origin. In the last election where Sadiq Khan was elected Lord Mayor of London the Tories including British Prime Minister was telling British voters of Indian origin not to vote for a “Pakistan” Muslim. The British Indians were smart not to fall for that ruse.

@techscribe "you come down south or go to the west or the east, things are totally different." Well said, and great examples. Due to the ten times more number of regions, languages, cultures, sub-cultures in India , there are just too many delectable food alternatives in India. I am Tamilian from South India, but brought up in Mumbai and just have a roving palette for desi foods. And even slight differences in ingredients, methods make essentially the same dish taste a lot different - take Udipi dosa, Tamil dosa or the ones in Karnataka. To be frank, I have heard of a popular street Dosa maker in Karachi who does chicken masala dosa etc., but those seem to be rare exotica.

Even though this feels like a corny feel good video (I'm not embarassed to say I'm a sucker for those) I hope a little bit of the sentiment trickles up to the leadership. We should never lose hope that some day india and Pakistan would come to terms with each other and compete in a healthy way.

Familiarity breeds contempt is what we Pakistanis have learnt the hard way. So for now at least, we are content the way things are. The Indians expressing warmth for us here are sadly a very tiny minority in India, where the hate spread by the ultra-right wingers against Pakistan has reached a point of no return. Drop the hate and you'll find us the most hospitable and caring people in the world.

Loved it. But the challenge is to universalise this between Urdu and Hindi speakers resident on the subcontinent itself. Overseas they really bond. And truly, not just for show, often. So, any suggestions???

Whenever I hear about tension between North and South Korea and see their military on the borders. I think these stupids are brothers, they look alike and speak the same language but still are fighting for some petty issue. Then I realize that we (Pakistan and India) are doing the same and rest of the world probably laughs at us and call us idiots too.

Don't try and make true what is not same. Respect other nations for what they are. Pakistanis eat same food as Iranians, Afghan's and Turks.

Give some South Indian food to a balochi and some of theirs to a Bengali and ask if they are same! Why so desperate to prove they are same. Why do we need to be same to live peacefully? Very annoying stereotypes and immature theories.

@Techscribe. You can find dosas and sambar in Karachi. There is also a sizeable Malabari community in Karachi. Both Indian & Pakistani cuisine are rich and diverse. Even many Pakistanis may have not tried Hunza and Brohi cuisine, just like many Indians may have not tried Naga and Ladakhi cuisine. I liked the video, it is so true. Modi should watch it too.
