KJo's said he won't work with Pakistani talent anymore, but MNS isn't convinced

MNS thinks his word choice was dubious: '(Karan) said he won’t work with the neighbouring country’s talent. Talent?'
19 Oct, 2016

Yesterday, Bollywood producer/director Karan Johar released a statement, in which he announced his intention to no longer "engage" with Pakistani "talent".

Karan said, "For me my country comes first, nothing else matters to me but my country."

"I'd like say that of course, I'll not engage with talent from the neighbouring country given the circumstance, but with same energy I beseech you to know that more than 300 Indians in my crew have put their blood, sweat and tears into Ae Dil Hai Mushkil," the filmmaker had added.

However, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena is not convinced, reports Indian Express.

The party has been threatening to interfere with the screening of Karan's much awaited production, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil because it features Pakistani actor Fawad Khan in a small role. The MNS demands that Pakistani stars be completely boycotted as a response to the September 18 Uri attack.

In response to Karan's video statement, Amey Khopkar, President of MNS' film wing, said, “Has he realised it only now? He didn’t understand it for such a long time?”

Amey also thought some of Karan’s choice of words was suspect.

“He has not mentioned Pakistani actors. He has said he won’t work with the neighbouring country’s talent. Talent?”

Moreover, Shalini Thackeray, general secretary of Chitrapat Karmachari Sena, wasn't convinced by Karan’s sudden change of heart.

“This is the same Karan Johar who once said Pakistani actors should not be banned. Why this sudden change in heart? It’s come a little too late in the day for him.”

So MNS has declared that it has no plans of withdrawing their agitation against the film. “We are firm on our stand and we will not allow him to release the film,” said Khopkar.

Mr Johar I am not against cultural exchange and art...But the situation on both sides is so unhealthy.Better stop for the moment and hope the situation improves soon.Working with anyone is your choice but not at the right moment.

Sad to see the fellow indians distrusting him. Regardless of KJo choice of not working with Pakistanis we still appreciate his work.

He can still spend a little more money, replace Fawad Khan's character with an Indian actor, reshoot the movie and release it. The problem is he doesn't want to spend money.

So many incidents happened in the recent past including Mumbai blasts. Why didn't MNS object to Pakistani actors acting in Indian movies all this time ? There is still trade going on between India and Pakistan , and there is no active war between them at present. So why ban the artists and the movies ? If a ban is necessary let it come from the government of India. Just like majority of Indians , majority of Pakistanis are also against terrorism and war . It is always preferable to have people to people contact and friendship organizations. I have several Pakistani friends and see nothing wrong in it.

He is bowing to the demands of fringe elements. His movie had been made way back before the current climate and officially there should be no ban on it or on Pakistani talent. Mumbai police have assured they would protect the cinemas showing these films and protect the Pakistani artistes while in India.

@VLP Neither Karan johar is affiliated with BJP nor MNS. With similar logic of yours, India was much much more intolerant during Mahatma Gandhi when during non cooperation and other movements.

Now that the MNS has taken care of the few Pakistani artists working in Indian movies, now they should start monitoring and raiding all homes where Indians are listening to Music by Pakistanis or Pakistani serials or TVdramas. It is still available in U tube.Go ahead, make India great again!

Tragic to see such an old civilisation and the largest democracy going backwards as a civil society... No wonder, no one can imagine India as a global power .... Global powers are inclusive not exclusive... They need to get out of this self supremacy which didn't help the Nazis or any other race supremacist group...

The owner of ipl teams in India have maintained a tradition of not bidding for any Pakistan player. The primary reason was that in the event of hostilities between indo-pak , they should not suffer financial losses as the player may not get visa etc. But this had proved better policy than cutting ties midway or after completion of the project.if sports can think of such financial risk beforehand why not the film industry.

Would have respected him, if he stood his ground...by changing his stance he is only proving he was always in it for the money. He is just giving into shiv sena who are nothing but bullies. i am 1/4 th pakistani...my civilization evolved in Pakistan, some of the sacred texts where i revere were composed in Pakistan, should i ban those too...when all this was done the situation was different, just like when Fawad and Mahira came to work. Why penalise 100s of indians who were as much part of the movie as Fawad.

I don't think Karan Johar can change his mind now that the producers guild which he is a part of has decided to pass a resolution to not have any Park actors in Bollywood movies....may be it is a good thing for Park industry as they will these actors available now...although the actors themselves probably mad, sad etc as their international career is over.....
