No Hum Style Awards, Mohib Mirza won't work for free

Mohib Mirza has slammed the organisers for expecting him to present an award without any compensation
18 Oct, 2016

Guess we won't be seeing Mohib Mirza on stage at the QMobile Hum Style Awards (unless he wins Most Stylish Actor - Film, of course).

The Bachaana star has turned down the Hum Network's request to present an award at the show taking place in Karachi on October 28. It was expected that Mohib would present the award "for free" and that the honour of presenting would suffice.

But, in a Facebook post, Mohib says he doesn't have honour for breakfast.

According to Mohib, when an award show is being sponsored by a big brand, stars should not be expected to take the same brand's name while hosting when they aren't being compensated for the promotion. He also reveals that many celebrities agree to work for free to feel like they "belong" in the industry.

Mohib's post drew support from his peers in the industry, with musician/actor Ali Azmat saying that he also refused to present an award for free. Filmmakers Asad ul Haq and Shahzad Nawaz and fellow actors Sami Khan, Uroosa Siddiqui and Rubya Chaudhry also applauded his take on the matter.

Performing in the ceremony I understand but asking for money for presenting an award does not make sense to me!

Finally a man with nerve of steel. i hope they don't revenge against him by making alliance to boycott his career and make example out of him for stating this out so loud.

Presenting award to someone is really an honor and I can never think a celebrity may ask money in lieu of honor. What a pity.

I think he makes sense...corporates in this country make loads of money and when it's their time to spend on our actors they become stingy

Great move by Mohib to highlight the cheapness of these companies. If they really honor the artistes then they should not make them say brand names and advertise for free.

Great move. Hopefully others will follow suit. These corporates/ channels take artists for granted all the while getting rich(er) in their name.

This money talk makes me sick. Presenting an award on stage is indeed an honour, has always been and will always be. You want a piece of the pie just because the hosting company has a financial arrangement with the advertisers, just shows how terribly greedy the artists are. Don't forget if it was not for these media houses no one would even recognize your pretty face. There are a dozen a dime like you on every street of Pakistan. Time to show some grace man !

I fully support Mohib Mirza. He and other fine artists should not be brought to a level by commercial TV to demand money. They should be valued and compensated for their appeal. Mohib keep it up.

He has a point. Why the channel is not running the show for honor and do not play any advertisement?

I personally think that he is a horrible actor and needs to attend acting classes. But then again our film industry is plagued by horrible acting, bad scripts and amateur cameramen. That said I support his stand and what he says makes sense to me.

For those who feel, presenting an award is a honour. My question. Tagging that award with a brand name; is that respectful? Drop the brand name from the award. Let artists present it free. That will be the real honour. Are the sponsors ready? If not, why only artists need to sacrifice their fee?
