Sanjay Dutt to make a comeback as Ballu Balram in Khalnayak Returns
The sequel to 1993's hit film Khalnayak is well on its way with Sanjay Dutt making a comeback as the escaped convict.
According to Mumbai Mirror, director of Khalnayak, Subash Ghai has announced that Khalnayak Returns will be in production by the end of the year with Dutt taking on his role as Ballu Balram.
"We've made an agreement to produce Khalnayak Returns which will roll by the year end or early next year," said the 71-year-old filmmaker. "I'd met Sanjay when he was out on parole and discussed the idea with him. He made a soundtrack with some voiceover in the background which I loved. Impressed with his passion for the film, we decided to take the idea forward."
Ghai may be putting a younger director in charge of the film, but he will be actively involved in the production process, including the music and holding a workshop for actors who will be cast in the film.
"We haven't signed anyone yet. We are completing the script first. There's lots of excitement and we'll announce further developments at the right time," he added.
Khalnayak was one of the biggest hits of 1993, with songs like Choli Ke Peeche Kya Hai being a favorite, along with the titular track Nayak Nahi Khalnayak Hoon Main. Besides Dutt, the original cast included Madhuri Dixit and Jackie Shroff. While details are still unknown, we look forward to the nostalgia!
