Salman Khan ordered to apologise for 'raped woman' comment

And he keeps spiraling down the rabbit hole.

The Sultan actor is in hot waters again and this time India's National Commission for Women (NCW) has asked the superstar for an apology.

In a recent media interaction, Salman Khan spoke at length about the grueling shoot of his upcoming film Sultan.

"While shooting, during those six hours, there’d be so much of lifting and thrusting on the ground involved. That was tough for me, because if I was lifting, I’d have to lift the same 120kg guy 10 times for 10 different angles. And likewise, get thrown that many times on the ground. This act is not repeated that many times in real fights in the ring."

"When I used to walk out of the ring, after the shoot, I used to feel like a raped woman. I couldn’t walk straight. I would eat and then, head right back to training. That couldn’t stop," he said.

Seconds later he retracted his statement and said, "I don't think I should have.... It feels like the most difficult... I couldn't take steps. I couldn't take steps."

But the damage had been done. The 'rape' comment was soon picked up and created a media uproar.

NDTV reported that NCW Chief Lalitha Kumaramangalam has demanded an apology from the superstar. “Considering the number of female fans he has, he should have made such a statement. Salman Khan should apologize. It is quite shameful that such a public figure can talk so irresponsibly," she said.

She wasn't the only one who was offended by his statement, BJP leader Shaina NC also strongly criticised the actor. "Salman must be condemned for his statement. The Salman everyone knows respects women and if he does respect women then he should admit he made a mistake and apologise," she said.

Secretary of the All India Progressive Women's Association (AIPWA) Kavita Krishnan took the issue on a larger scale. "Salman Khan's comment trivialises rape, but it's not just Salman, rape analogies are common in society and films."

According to India.com, Salman’s father Salim Khan took to Twitter to clear the air about his son's statement and apologised on his behalf.

Twitter was soon abuzz with mixed responses to Salman Khan's statement. From #SalmanMisquoted to #InsensitiveSalman, Twitteratis voiced their opinion on the matter.

You can say he spoke his mind during the interview. That explains what he thinks about women in general and his attitude

Raped women was the only example he could think of? Though he didn't mean it, his words are inappropriate.

question is - how does he know what a raped woman feels like. is he able to use this as a lighthearted simile as the issue of rape is a joke to him?

He didn't insult anyone; just explained his condition. He is being unnecessarily targeted.

His words are inapproariate because he has not experienced women the right way. Once, he gets married he will learn to respect what it means to be a woman in the form of his wife and his daughters

No man can ever know how a raped woman feels. It is her emotions, her self-esteem and her soul and her very existence that is hurt.

Rape is punishable by death in india, so is the public sentiment in india. A celebrity should be aware of such public sensivity before giving such statements.

It just proves how disconnected these "celebrities" are with the real world and peoples' feelings and how lightly these stars take the impact of their words and actions, that will surely be on their fans and general public. Movies are not a good medium to educate people, because the people behind movies and the people featuring in movies, are not completely educated themselves, at least in morality.

@Shaukat Ali Khan you don't see anything wrong with equating "walking out of a gym" with "woman who has been raped"? Ask a woman especially one who has unfortunately been raped and see how she feels.

If only Salman knew the mental trauma rape victims go through rather than concentrating only on physical pain.

Who does not make mistakes? At least he realized it and tried to correct it immediately. The problem is with people who make ridiculous statements or gestures and then because of their egos, refuse to retract them.

His statement is epic. Speaks volumes and volumes about him, his antecedent history, his brush with the law and of course, the audience which he targets and gets admired in return.

I think every one is talking him wrong, all he wanted is to relate that his body has to suffer during the shoot of sultan. Basically how much rapped victim can be effected can not be related to this at all but how much strain the body has to under go during this shoot, if you guys have gown through the trailer of the movie then you will some what understand his point.
