Sara Haider's inspiring new single cements her place amongst Pakistan's rockstar elite

Directed by Jami, Dekha De Rang Apna features Karachi and raw footage of Haider in her element
24 Dec, 2015

We've known for a while that Sara Haider can croon.

But just when you think she's peaked, she goes and outdoes herself, every time. When she recently appeared on Coke Studio singing Ae Dil alongside Ali Zafar, she cemented herself as the upcoming superstar that she is.

With her new single, Dekha De Rang Apna, the young singer has managed to impress yet again.

The song's done a great job of showcasing Sara's singing talent, covering Karachi in the video and making you dance all at the same time.

The uplifting music video has been directed by the talented Jami and produced by Omran Shafique. It's of the new music campaign called 'Live in Levi's' for the denim brand, their contribution to lending support to the local music industry.

Talking about the song, Haider shared, "I grew up in this city, I grew up in Karachi. It's the idea that the city is changing with us, we are evolving. The song has a lot of hope in it. It's about what our city could be, what lives could be."

Having performed at national and international events including the Apeejay Kolkatta Literary Festival in India and Nida Butt's 'Grease - The Musical', Haider's climb to the top has been riddled with hard work and determination.

She didn't bag the Lux Style Award in the category of Emerging Talent this year for nothing and we can't wait to see what this girl does next!

So.... the message in this song (according to the prologue) is to find your voice, free it and then immediately sell it to a multinational.... also take note of how the selling happened by unabashedly advertising various denim products.... The song is mediocre at best and btw.... Levis products have been long dead in Europe and the U. S

Good beat, Great voice, Mediocre lyrics, Low budget video. The "raw footage of Haider in her element" is not impressive. Great voice though.

I was unimpressed by the song...... if she is considered "rockstar elite" of Pakistan..... than... I am sorry to say..... it is sorry state of affairs......

Best of luck to Sara in whatever she does, but this performance in specific does not even come closer to putting her anywhere near the rockstar elite

Mediocre song. Average voice. A poor attempt to prop up an average singer.

If she's the 'rockstar elite' based on one cover of a classic sung in an awkward foreign accent in Coke Studio, the bar is obviously pretty low. Remember when Junoon had to slog away in rundown college gigs for years without recognition, took on political corruption with zero media support in the early 90s, got banned in Pakistan and still continued to make great music album after album? Now that's rockstar elite. The bar's fallen very low these days, the so-called music scene is now only for mummy-daddy kids who sing with funny foreign accents.

@Ali S totally agree, and a minor addition to your 2nd graph: Not someone who lands one sponsored gig after another. It's a PR/advertisement piece for Sara and Levi's respectively. As a matter of fact, consider this: She may very well be a hardworking, honest and passionate singer - which I've no reason to believe she isn't. But by hyperbole of 'rockstar elite' etc. actually demeans her. Call a spade a spade; jack won't become a king by writing a 'K' and crossing 'J' -- in fact, you just ruined the card, consequently the deck. She's good, and it's great that music industry is being resuscitated one way or another.
