Bollywood has a Begum Akhtar biopic in the works, and they're roping in two of the industry's top actors for the film's main roles.
Kangana Ranaut and Irrfan Khan may act together for the first time in this film titled Ae Mohabbat. While Irfan has been confirmed for the male lead, Kangana has yet to sign on officially, reports Indian Express.
“We are trying to get Kangana Ranaut to play one of the stages of Begum Akhtar in the film,” the producer Jalota told IANS.
Begum Akhtar is renowned ghazal and thumri singer, who was also the recipient of the Padmabhushan. The film is being made with the help of Begunm Akhtar's student Rita Ganguly, who was very close to her and called her 'Ammi' (mother).
“It is not really a biopic but a feature film," explained the producer. "The screenplay is ready and it will have full formula of a superhit film. We are planning to release it next year as it's a period film and lot goes behind making such projects."
Ae Mohabbat is being directed by Ketan Mehta of Mangal Pandey and Manjhi: The Mountain Man fame, and the film will also boast a soundtrack by A.R. Rehman.
