Ali Gul Pir on his first sitcom: 'It's hard to just be an actor'
For everyone who was wondering where Ali Gul Pir went after his food franchise video, the stand-up comedian is back in the scene with his new sit-com Batashay for ARY Digital.
Paired up with Ayaz Samoo of Moor fame, this will be the first time Ali has ventured into a sit-com.
"I have never done a sitcom before because previously I have done improvisational comedy shows like Light On Hai and then The Four Man Show leaned toward satire," said Ali about his previous work.
The story appears to be quite cliched with two lads trying to get the same girl. But Ali Gul Pir and Ayaz Samoo together give us hope that it will not be too formulaic:
"Ayaz and I play the roles of two friends who live in this neighbourhood where a family of three move in — a couple and their beautiful daughter. They both fall for her and want to know her so she can reciprocate those feelings, " he says.
"But we don't tell each other and try to initiate a conversation to find out that her father is an Accounting teacher. Pursuing her, we both decide to take tuitions from her father and realise that we both like her. The story follows our trials to get her."
A new actor on the block, Arooba Mirza will be playing the girl while the mother will be Gule Rana.
Ali said that it wasn't easy to get into the skin of solely an actor: "It was different because most of the times I am saying the lines I have written myself and for the first time they were penned by someone else."
"It's hard to just be an actor and not be part of the bigger picture because I mostly direct my own videos and concept is very important there. So it's not easy to take a backseat and play your role, which is just acting. It's also new and challenging because I don't consider myself as a good actor but I am learning from an experienced team."
Ali, who still goes by his famous song Waderay Ka Beta, will also be coming out with another video but that's still in works: "I am also working on a new song which will hopefully be out in two months or so."
