Are women in Bollywood paid less than men? Salman Khan thinks that's rubbish

The actor dismissed claims that a gender-based wage gap exists in Bollywood, and in harsh words, too
19 Sep, 2015

Heroines in Bollywood such as Deepika Padukone and Kangana Ranaut haven't shied away from talking about the pay disparity based on gender that exists in Bollywood.

Many of their colleagues, including male stars from the fraternity have backed up their statements. Salman Khan is not of them.

The actor was quick to dismiss their claims, terming it as "bulls**t talk".

"The question is, who is pulling those people into a theatre? If a female star is getting those many people and the producer is making money, the exhibitor and distributor are all making money. So then obviously they (female actors) will get that much money but if it’s a male star, then he will get it," states the Dabangg lead.

He adds, that there are many male actors who are earning less than actresses in the arena and that is attributed to the command over the box office and ability to pull in crowds.

Khan elaborates: “There are male stars in the Rs 1 to 3 crore bracket and there are lots of female stars in the Rs 5 to 7 crore bracket; that’s also there, right? Why doesn't anyone talk about that? So this whole female stars-male stars debate is bulls**t. Whoever is selling, and as much he or she is selling, will get that much."

Another point made by the actor is that the worth of a star no longer needs to be guesstimated as the industry has become a corporate field.

“Today, there are managers who monitor everything, the business is very clear. So whoever brings return on investment gets that much money — simple!”, shares Khan, who be seen next in Sooraj Barjatya's Prem Ratan Dhan Payo.

Uh oh, we bet the women of Bollywood aren't very pleased with Khan now.

salman khan is correct. if any heroine thinks she is crowd puller she can demand more. than what amir khan Salman Khan akshay Kumar is getting. she will surely get if she deserves. but who thinks that salmaan khan is wrong ask yourself which heroine is there who have that power. director can sign another heroine and get the same result. but this is nott the case with male lead.

The man is a murderer, who is hiding from the punishment due to his wealth derived from his viewer of his films. If only the population will boycott his film, he will be on the street like the homeless person he killed.

That's absolutely correct.. You don't deserve to get money if your movie doesn't earn well.. As simple as that.. Why is there a question even.. Next, if a movie earns well, there are managers to monitor things like, who is pulling the crowd, or what factors are pulling the crowd: is it the story? then from next time, the story writers get more money.. Is it the director? Then the director becomes big.. Is it the actor, then the actor gets more money.. as simple as that.. All actors, both male/female have their agents and managers who play crucial role in negotiating the paycheck based on their client's (actor/actress) popularity and star power.. There are enough good analytics to measure those even.. So there is absolutely no disparity..
