As India and Pakistan are close to the 70th year since their partition, 12 prolific filmmakers from both sides of the border came together to make an empowering video, a video to showcase their zeal for unity.

The directors can be seen reciting a stunning Kausir Munir poem that's simple yet effective: the message conveyed is that both sides need to come together for reform, to make a difference.

The initiative has been backed by Zee Zindagi – a channel dedicated to airing Pakistani plays across India and beyond.

Directors who are representing Pakistan include Mehreen Jabbar, Sabiha Sumar, Shahbaz Sumar, Siraj ul Haque, Khalid Ahmed and Farjad Nabi/Meenu Gaur. From India, the filmmakers participating are Aparna Sen, Ketan Mehta, Nikhil Advani, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Bejoy Nambiar, and Tanuja Chandra.

We're all for this heartwarming cross-border venture.

I am sorry but these meaningless feel good gestures are pointless unless the nation of kashmir is free and those human beings are allowed to live without fear and not under occupation. These Indian , Pakistani and Kashmiris should do a video about how they yearn for their wishes to be heard and respected.,ma promise made 68 years ago.

We speak same language, have same values. Why can't we live side by side like US and Canada. This is what any rational mind would do.... Heart touching.

@Farooq sir we are not one. But as good neighbors we should live in peace and harmony. We are separate in many ways but it's ok to be different. US Canada has too many things in common yet they live as neighbor and in peace.

Everytime I open Dawn's website, it feels as if I am reading news of my very own people. A civilisation which matured through a hundred thousand years bifurcated by political whims! Dear people, we feel maimed without you. But the current state of affairs is not feasible. May you rise , be free from all the terrorism , develop a state where there is no persecution of minorities. May be one day we will march ahead side by side.

How is this supposed to help? It takes justice and fairness to bring peace and harmony. Let's not beat around the bush, for feel good empty efforts.

@Farooq We can not live side by side in peace while our neighbour is not willing to discuss our long standing bilateral issues. If you think you can then you either do not have a rational mind or you are morally weak.

@Farooq when a Sikh does not speak same language as a Tamil and non of them have same anything as a Pathan or Baluch, then what ' same' are you talking about. We can live peacefully side by side after Kashmir is resolved.

Among the common people of these two countries there is no enemity. To fulfill their ambition the government pours anger for other nation in people in patriotic ways. There is only one thing to say worm affection for thousands of years can not be demolished in just 70years. Let it be little, that our forefathers did for a nation's building and development of culture;we are still debt to each other for that even after partition. Hats of to Dawn, you are doing great work in the same way as the films. We say 'WE INDIANS or PAKISTANIS HAVE HATRED FOR OTHER ' at our home. But actually we are individuals and have our own thoughts. We all love our country but all do't agree with the hatred ideology to live together an solve any problem ;this opportunity of knowing individual thoughts is given by DAWN.COM to us.That makes a difference between what we mean and what I mean.

@Zak Kashmir is a "state" and a part of a nation "India". Get your geography correct before feeling sorry for anything! Also, people in Kashmir are not occupied, they chose to be a part of a nation where their heart belongs to and they live under fear due to the inhuman acts of millitants only. So stop speaking on the behalf of someone when you do not have the right information!

@Zak. These issues will never be resolved as there r plenty of people on both side who love to see this thinks continue for benefit of their own. Its like divert ur attention to small things, relate it to national identity and people become emotional . These r tactics use to be power. Important things like governance corruption takes back seat.

I believe efforts like these should not be rendered meaningless by mentioning geographical or political arguments no matter how highlighted they are. Rather these efforts should be appreciated. DROPS make OCEANS. No deed of a good heart is small. All in all, Hats Off.

It is good to try and hope for the best. But there are some bottlenecks: Kashmir issue, RSS, Bajrang Dal,Jan Sangh and many more radical organisations which are Muslim hater.Until India get rid of them, normalization seems difficult. But keep trying. People should note that RRS chief in Maharashtra have three personal doctors and two of them are Muslim , still they hate us.It is big guess work.

Yes we can work side by side and help each other succeed and then have an atmosphere of trust to end our differences. Let the punjabis, Sindhis, Mumbai & Karachites talk and share their culture, love & experiences and even Kashmiries and tear this Berlin of hate that has divided us for so long.
