PAK vs NZ: Twitterati laugh off Green Shirts' defeat with some hilarious memes

The match’s only saving grace was Fawad Alam’s century, and that did not go unnoticed.
30 Dec, 2020

As New Zealand captured yet another win in what was a nail-biting dramatic innings against Pakistan at Mount Maunganui earlier today, the green flags lost by a margin of 101 runs.

Captain Mohammad Rizwan and batsman Fawad Alam maintained a partnership of 165 runs, before the former trudged back to the pavilion — the match’s only saving grace being Alam’s century. Batting out of an unorthodox full frontal stance with his back to his stumps and almost directly facing the bowler, the star of the match was still able to produce a full array of shots.

However, coming full circle from hope to disappointment, Twitterati did what they do best — laugh off the defeat with some hilarious memes. Here are some of our favourite ones.

The internet never forgets

Some couldn't take it

While others found common ground to relate

A tragic loss they deemed it

Few needed a drink after this

While Fawad Alam had his own separate fan base

Always those handful...

Blame 2020

More deserving players should play. Shan masood is waste of space.

Fawad Alam who scored a brilliant century spent eleven years in the wilderness before being brought back . Selection lapses have reduced Pakistan cricket to where it is today.

Well played greenshirts and heartiest congratulations to Fawad Alam for proving all past selectors wrong and scoring his second memorable and historic test century in New Zealand after a gap of 11 years and five month in the fourth inning under highly rough and tough environment and brutal on-the-ground conditions. Keep it up and hang on tough.

@Zaidhaq BCCI would have loved a pak win here for India’s chances in the test championship ship. Boys fought hard and we should learn to accept our defeats and shortcomings

Bitter pill (defeat) to swallow. But, medicine is for the disease to get cured whether it is bitter or not.

Mickey Arthur, Inzamam, and all others who did not select Fawad for a decade should be ashamed of themselves. No one could have scored 13000 runs at an average of 57 without exceptional talents.

Although I feel Fawad Alam should have been included in the test team all along, people need to stop living in the past and bringing up this selection issue. Complaining about the past never helps. It just makes matters worse. Also, cricket is a game of chance. If Fawad Alam had got out on a low score, what would happened then?

Pakistan cricket management as always been unprofessional for past 20+ years. Fawad Alam, and others like him missed out. Azar who got out in second inning, playing a ball well outside his stumps, which he should have left. Pakistanis are Not mentally strong. If they were then they should have saved the match. Well played Fawad & Riwan.

Pakistan team fought well, after 2 down for 0 and 3 down for 37. That is a big plus Pakistan can take from the 1st match.

Why didn't they pick Fawad Alam in the national team for over a decade despite stellar performances at domestic level? He only played 6 test matches before this? Is this part of the larger discrimination against the people of Karachi?

Don’t forget Rizwan’s brilliant effort first up as a captain ......Fawad A what can one say other than now to him! He is a hero....don’t let up mission is not compete. He has guts and fighting qualities that openers and Sohail don’t have. Shaid Afridi also showed immense courage . We should congratulate Pak team....it is not easy

This show how unprofessional PCB is. 11 years of Fawad Alam got wasted. Hardly there was anyone to support him. Pakistan should have drawn first test but its careless batting and weak bowling that let our team down. How come such a weak team goes for New Zealand tour.
