#ISupportHamzaAliAbbasi: Twitter is furious about PEMRA's ban on the Ramazan host

"We ban citizens for questions!" said one aghast Twitter user
Updated 18 Jun, 2016

PEMRA went on a banning bout yesterday, as it clamped down on both Hamza Ali Abbasi - who spoke up for Ahmedi rights in Pakistan - and TV show host Shabbir Abu Talib for inciting violence against Abbasi on his TV show.

Many on Twitter disagreed with PEMRA's decision, and said so.

People thought the ban is just plain wrong:

Some showed concern about the death threats to Hamza:

Many wanted to call out the same treatment of Hamza Ali Abbasi and Shabbir Abu Talib:

Many just wondered how Hamza got banned but other controversial hosts are still on air.

As far Hamza, he's sticking to his earlier argument:

Hamza should focus on being a host and actor not a religious scholar. People with very limited knowledge of Islam must not indulge themselves on sensitive issues. They can only be addressed by those who spend years on learning Islam. It is like trying to become a scientist after reading basic science.

Well, the majority social media users are happy over the decision. Two words do not exist in our dictionary: freedom of expression and minority rights.

Everyone has the right to ask questions especially about the laws of their country and the faith they follow. His questions were important and relevant.

@Ali : What an epically ignorant comment. Religion is not a science, nor is science a religion. Religion has dominion of matters of the heart and is meant to be discussed. How does one measure someones seniority in matters of religious knowledge? Is there a test? It is all subjective.

He may know nothing about Islam (and he does not need to be an expert at all) but his guests can be experts on the topic. he has the right to host shows and to ask any question he wants! Our society can not grow unless with question things we are told, most of which have no basis by the way.

@Ali Hamza was asking innocent questions which any of us might ask. Why we make few things sensitive and don't want to talk about them. Its a shame.

@Ali he did not need any degree from a religious university to ask the simple question which bother every educated and enlightened Pakistani. He is just talking the minority rights and it is not blasphemous to ask this.
