Asim Azhar drops his new album Asim Ali — and the internet has shown up with feelings
Fans want someone to write for them the way Asim Azhar writes for Asim Ali.
Asim Azhar’s fans loved his Punjabi track ‘Khabbay Sajjay’ and Azhar loved all the love they showed the song, so now he wants to give something back by having one talented cover artist work with him on the official unplugged version.
In an Instagram reel posted on Thursday, the singer said this was necessary after seeing so many people make beautiful covers of his song.
He asked fans to tag their favourite cover artist in the comments and said one winner would get to work with him on the song.
In a story on his account, Azhar explained this was real and “not a drill”. He said seeing so many amazing musicians cover his song made his “heart smile”.
“Go tag yourself or your favourite artist who has covered ‘Khabbay Sajjay’ on my latest reel and the best one will get to be on the official unplugged version which we’ll release officially,” the singer said.
Azhar hinted that he might also make a video of the unplugged version with the winning artist.
The song — one of 10 on the Asim Ali album — is a romantic number with Azhar singing praises of his lover who is “so beautiful that my heart moves khabbay sajjay (left and right).”
The song’s description on YouTube — where it has amassed over a million views — says it is “an aching declaration of devotion — love that persists even when distance, fear, and time stretch it thin”.
