Dr Bahu and the anatomy of control
This isn't a show about villains and victims — it's about a family engineered to serve one man’s ego, who slowly learn to dismantle it from within.
Doctor Bahu ended last week and while fan reactions to the finale were mixed, Kubra Khan — one of the show’s stars — had nothing but fond memories and gratitude for the team.
In a reel posted on her Instagram account on Wednesday, Khan said the experience of filming the show left her with strong feelings not just for her co-stars, but for everyone on set.
She started the video by saying she didn’t add a song to her video of clips from behind the scenes, choosing not to add the drama’s OST because the audience had heard it too many times.
Working on the show reminded her of a line from Elton John’s ‘Your Song’, she said. “It’s a little bit funny, this feeling inside. But not one of those you can easily hide.
“Doctor Bahu, was something like that for me. It had so many emotions, so many feelings, not just attached to the script, but [to the] set. I always say that if your set has a good vibe, a good atmosphere and everyone is treating each other well, then half of your work is done.”
Khan said she had no idea how nine months of her working on the drama flew by with all the fun they had on set. “They say [actors] laugh during romantic scenes. We used to laugh during sad scenes as well.”
She said that while she would love to tell the world the cast and crew were like a family, they weren’t. It was more like time spent in high school or college where “whatever happens, we always stayed together… If there was a problem on set, whether it be rain, shine or a war, we’d support each other”.
Without getting too “mushy”, she said this wouldn’t have been possible if it weren’t for the people involved in the project. Khan thanked the show’s director, Mehreen Jabbar, the writer, Sanam Mehdi Zaryab, and the director of photography, Tayyab Shah, in particular.
The actor also thanked “cast members, but more importantly, the crew members… for making this set so beautiful”.
Khan ended her note by saying she didn’t know if she’d ever get to work with a team like this again but would always look back on them fondly. She said the bar for all her future projects “has gone way too high” after Doctor Bahu.
