Netflix’s Adolescence has been the talk of the town lately for its strong subject matter and award-winning performances. On Sunday, the series won four Golden Globes, including the honour for Best Limited Series, Anthology Series or Motion Picture Made for Television.

Backstage, co-creator Stephen Graham — who also took home a Globe for his acting on the show — confirmed to Deadline he and Jack Thorne were considering a second season of the show.

Talking about the possibility of a sequel, the star said, “I cannot answer that question because it’s somewhere in the deep recesses of my mind and Jack’s mind, and we’ll pull it out in three or four years, so stay tuned.”

Speculation around another season of the show has been rife since April, when producers Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner confirmed that they were in talks with director Philip Barantini for a “second iteration” of the show. Gardner said they were working on ways to “widen the aperture, stay true to its DNA [and] not be repetitive”.

While no further details are available on the plot or cast of the next series, statements given by Graham and Thorne indicate it won‘t revolve around Jamie, the subject of the first season. In an interview with Variety, Graham said, “There’s the possibility of developing another story”.

Thorne told ITV, “I think Jamie’s story is finished,” adding that, “I don’t think there’s anywhere more we can take Jamie… We’d love to explore the one-shot format in another way. We’d love to tell other stories with it.”

Graham’s wife and producing partner, Hannah Walters, said, “That’s certainly not going to happen,” when asked about a prequel to the show.

Aside from sweeping award shows, Adolescence was also received well by audiences, amassing 146 million views in its first 91 days on Netflix and rising to become the platform’s second-most-watched English-language series.
