Dearest gentle reader, the ton has been fed, and it’s Benedict Bridgerton’s turn to pine.

Netflix has unveiled the first official trailer for Bridgerton season four, and with it, the bohemian Bridgerton brother is finally stepping into the romantic spotlight.

The trailer opens with Benedict Bridgerton (played by Luke Thompson) attempting to explain the concept of American football before redirecting attention to pursuits like love, longing, and a lavish masquerade ball.

Narrated, as always, by Julie Andrews as Lady Whistledown, the trailer wastes no time laying bare Benedict’s dilemma. Pressured by his formidable mother, Violet Bridgerton, to finally marry, Benedict insists he is charting a “more venturesome course”. Naturally, fate and a mysterious woman have other plans.

Enter Sophie Baek, played by Yerin Ha, a girl forced into servitude who dreams of “one glorious night” beyond her station. In true Regency-meets-Cinderella fashion, Sophie slips into disguise for a masquerade, where she and Benedict share an instant, intoxicating connection. He calls her “the most intriguing person I’ve ever met.” She promptly disappears into the night, identity intact and heart very much not.

Benedict begins an obsessive search for the woman he cannot forget, and Sophie’s concerns over whether revealing who she really is would cost her everything. If the trailer is anything to go by, season four, like all previous seasons, leans heavily into yearning glances, social divides, and the kind of romantic angst Bridgerton does best.

The new season is based on Julia Quinn’s third novel, An Offer from a Gentleman, and promises to unravel Benedict’s love story with all the silk, scandal, and orchestral pop covers viewers have come to expect.

Season four will arrive in two parts — part one premieres on January 29, followed by part two on February 26.
