Auj vocalist Abdul Rehman Sajid parts ways with band
Auj vocalist Abdul Rehman Sajid has decided to part ways with the rock band to pursue a new artistic direction.
The band announced the news on social media, assuring fans that Auj will continue its musical journey without him. “To all our fans, Abdur Rahman has decided to step away from Auj to pursue a new artistic path. While it’s a tough decision, we fully support him in this journey. The time we’ve spent together has been incredible, filled with unforgettable music and memories. We’re grateful for everything we’ve achieved as a band.
“This isn’t a farewell; it’s a new chapter for all of us,” the band declared. “We can’t wait to see what the future holds for Abdur Rahman and Auj! Thank you for your continued support! With love and gratitude, AUJ.”
The news comes as a shock to fans who have followed Auj since their rise to fame after winning Pepsi Battle of the Bands in 2019.
Sajid, widely regarded as one of the most well-trained vocalists from the show, brought a distinct energy and skillset to the band. His powerful vocals, combined with the band’s signature sound, helped Auj deliver hits like ‘Lafz’, ‘Aansu’ and ‘Duhrao,’ and make their mark in the Pakistani music industry.
Auj’s origins and Sajid’s role
Auj was originally formed in 2008-09 by bassist Syed Hasnain Ali and lead guitarist Zaka. Known for its intense live performances and a blend of heavy rock and classical gayaki, the band had to undergo several lineup changes before cementing its current form.
Sajid, who became an integral part of Auj, joined the band after a serendipitous meeting with Zaka at a singing competition in IBA.
In a 2019 interview with Images, Zaka reflected on how he found Sajid and introduced him to the band: “Many singers came and left; no one really gelled with us. Then, a few years ago, I met Abdur Rehman. He didn’t win the competition, but I knew his talent was exceptional. After jamming together for a week, I introduced him to the band, and we became Auj.”
That collaboration led to Auj’s rise in the underground music scene, eventually culminating in their victory at Pepsi Battle of the Bands. Sajid’s unique vocal prowess and the chemistry he developed with Zakar, Hasnain, and drummer Muhammad Kashif became the backbone of the band’s sound.
The future of Auj
Despite Sajid’s departure, Auj has reassured fans that this is merely the beginning of a new chapter, both for Sajid and the remaining members of AUJ. While it’s uncertain who will step in to fill the vocalist’s shoes, the band’s passion and talent have always been at the forefront of their success.
As for Sajid, it appears that he may be going solo. Who knows, we might see him churning out new music independently very soon.
