Indian filmmaker Boney Kapoor finally opens up about Sridevi’s ‘accidental’ death

Bollywood filmmaker Boney Kapoor has opened up about the death of his wife and one of Bollywood’s most iconic actors, Sridevi, five years after it happened.

After looking at investigative reports and “certain other evidence”, Kapoor was sure that Sridevi had died due to drowning, he revealed in an interview with The New Indian on Monday.

“They also discovered that there was no foul play and I went through all the intense interrogation there were, they put me through a lie detector and all those things. The post-mortem report said that it was an accidental death by drowning,” he said.

The filmmaker also claimed that his late wife followed a very strict diet, which led to her deteriorating health. Kapoor expressed that before her ‘accidental’ death, the Mr. India actor “had a blackout on a number of occasions and doctors kept telling her, ‘You have low BP (blood pressure) so do not follow a severe diet and don’t avoid salt’.”

“Most women believe salt increases water retention that’s why you feel puffy. That was one reason. I would also tell her not to completely avoid salt. I would also ask her to include a pinch of salt when having salad,” he recalled.

Kapoor also described his frustration over being considered a suspect in his wife’s sudden death, “Dubai Police told me that we had to go through [it] because there was pressure from Indian media.”

On February 24, 2018, Sridevi died suddenly inside a hotel room in Dubai. Her death was officially ruled as having been a result of accidental drowning. but was subject to speculation.
